Explore Aurangabad your way

At ToursByLocals, we believe that how you explore is just as important as where you go. That’s why every Aurangabad tour is private, flexible, and built around you: Move at your own pace, skip the crowds, make connections and follow your curiosity. Find local guides offering private tours in Aurangabad for every interest, including:

Religious Sites tours: Start at Ellora Caves to see Kailasa Temple and quiet Buddhist prayer halls, with your guide showing you how a single rock became a temple. Add a visit to Grishneshwar Jyotirlinga or the Sufi dargah at Panchakki for a short prayer stop and to learn local dos and don’ts.

Layover tours: Your guide meets you at Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Airport (IXU) and uses a 4-6 hour window to show you Bibi Ka Maqbara and the water-powered Panchakki, with a quick bite of misal pav or naan qalia at a favourite eatery. With 8 or more hours, you can fit Ellora Caves and still get back to the terminal with time to clear security.

History tours: Climb Daulatabad (Devagiri) Fort to see old cannon positions and the dark bat passage, then explore Bibi Ka Maqbara while hearing why locals call it the mini Taj. Your guide can also trace the line of the old city gates (Delhi Gate, Paithan Gate, Mecca Gate) and take you into a Himroo or Paithani weaving workshop to watch the looms in action.

Most sights are spread out and the city is not very walkable; local buses and auto-rickshaws exist but are not ideal for touring. You can book chauffeured tours or tours with private transportation, or ask your local guide to arrange a car for your group.

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all itinerary, you can tailor your private tour to match your interests, pace and personality with a local who knows Aurangabad inside and out.

Day trip ideas from Aurangabad

Base yourself in the city and line up Aurangabad day trips that bring you to cave temples, hill forts, and a crater lake, with tours that keep travel simple so you spend more time at the sites.

Ellora Caves and Grishneshwar Carved into a basalt cliff, Ellora’s Hindu, Buddhist, and Jain temples include the massive Kailasa, which feels like a stone sculpture you can walk inside, and nearby Grishneshwar adds a living temple stop. Art and architecture fans can dig into detail, while casual visitors still get an easy, high-impact day.

Ajanta Caves A horseshoe gorge hides rock-cut monasteries painted with vivid Buddhist murals. If you enjoy ancient stories and careful craft, this loop rewards slow looking, and the drive through the hills breaks up the day with village scenes.

Daulatabad Fort A steep climb past gates and trap-filled passages leads to wide views and wind at the top. Good for photographers and anyone who likes military history, with time to explore bastions and old cannons without rushing.

Lonar Crater Formed by a meteor, this saltwater lake sits in a green bowl with temples along the rim and birdlife on the shore. Nature lovers and science-minded travelers get a different landscape, and the walk down and back up turns it into a simple workout.

Paithan and Jayakwadi In Paithan, watch Paithani silk weaving and see how designs come together on the loom, then continue to the Jayakwadi bird sanctuary for wetlands views. Textile shoppers, birders, and families all get a mix of culture and quiet water scenes in one day.

A private tour with a local guide is the best way to really get to know a place. Skip the crowds, follow your interests, and see a side of Aurangabad most travellers miss.
