Explore Pushkar your way

At ToursByLocals, we believe that how you explore is just as important as where you go. That’s why every Pushkar tour is private, flexible, and built around you: Move at your own pace, skip the crowds, make connections and follow your curiosity. Find local guides offering private tours in Pushkar for every interest, including:

Nature and Wildlife tours: Set out at sunrise on your private tour for a birdwatching walk around Pushkar Lake and the surrounding fields, where your guide helps you spot herons, kingfishers, and peafowl. Later, ride a camel or take a jeep into the dunes outside town for sunset views and chai at a small farm, with a quick stop at a rose plantation to see petals being harvested.

Religious Sites tours: Circle Pushkar Lake with a local who explains ghat etiquette, then join a short aarti at Varaha Ghat and make an offering at the Brahma Temple without guesswork on your private tour. Ride the ropeway or climb the steps to Savitri Mata Temple for ringing bells and views, and visit Rangji Temple to compare South Indian and Rajasthani styles.

History tours: Follow trading lanes through the old bazaar as your guide points out frescoed havelis, a 19th-century dharamshala, and workshops where lac bangles and rose attar are still made. Add a side trip to nearby Ajmer for Taragarh Fort and Adhai-din-ka-Jhonpra, then tie those stories back to the shrines and lanes you walk in town.

The lake, bazaar, and main temples are easy to cover on foot, and auto-rickshaws handle short rides; there’s no metro and local buses mainly link to Ajmer. For hilltop temples, countryside stops, or an Ajmer visit, you can book chauffeured tours or ask your local guide to arrange private transportation.

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all itinerary, you can tailor your private tour to match your interests, pace and personality with a local who knows Pushkar inside and out.

Day trip ideas from Pushkar

If you’re based in Pushkar, you can use the day to see nearby cities and desert sights, picking day trips that match your pace and what you like, from faith and food to forts and wide salt flats, all easy to shape into your tour.

Ajmer: About 30 minutes from Pushkar, this city centres on the Ajmer Sharif Dargah, busy lanes, and Ana Sagar Lake. Go for Sufi heritage, street snacks, and lake views, then add a calm walk up to Taragarh Fort for city panoramas. Good if you want living culture, markets, and short travel time.

Kishangarh: Roughly 45 minutes away, known for Kishangarh school miniatures and marble trade. Visit artists’ areas, the old fort quarter, and Gundalao Lake for easy photos. Best if you’re into art, craft, and local industry; your tour can spend more time in workshops or at the palace precincts.

Sambhar Salt Lake: Around 2 hours by road, this is India’s largest inland salt lake with bright salt pans and big skies. See salt works and, in winter, migratory birds across the flats. Works well if you like photography, landscapes, and quieter places outside the cities.

Nagaur: About 2 hours from Pushkar, the restored Nagaur Fort has frescoes, courtyards, and calm gardens, with old bazaars nearby. Pair the fort with spice and hardware markets for a look at everyday trade. Pick this if you enjoy architecture, history, and real-world market scenes.

Merta City: Roughly 90 minutes away, known for temples linked to Meerabai and simple old streets. Stop for local sweets, small shrines, and a slow walk through neighbourhoods. Good for faith history and a low-key town feel without long drives.

A private tour with a local guide is the best way to really get to know a place. Skip the crowds, follow your interests, and see a side of Pushkar most travellers miss.
