The Olympic Games site and the archaeological museum private tour
Overview of your Olympia tour
There is a great archeological site in Olympia that we can explore, as well as one of the best archeological museums in Greece. In the archeological site, among several other remains of important buildings, you will see the gymnasium and the palaestra, the Phillipeion, the workshop of Pheidias where the gold and ivory statue of Zeus was built, the temples of Zeus and Hera, the altar where the Olympic torch is being lit in the modern days and the ancient Olympic stadium. In the archeological museum are housed all finds that were excavated in the archeological site. Bronze and clay offerings (tripods and figurines), armor, vases, the tools and cup from Pheidias's workshop, the gorgeous Hermes by Praxiteles, the Nike by Paeonios, the very impressive and very well preserved classical statues from the pediments of the temple of Zeus and more.

If I could give Nikki 10 stars I would - she was an absolutely amazing guide! She truly brought Olympia to life - not only through her incredible store of knowledgeable (which is beyond belief) but she has an incredible knack for being able to read her clients and in turn interact with them in a way that makes the entire experience even more fantastic. Niki was an excellent guide for the Olympic buildings and museum. She skillfully explained the history and purpose of every Olympic building. She helped us understand the awe inspired by the 40 foot tall statue of Zeus. With Niki as our guide, we could catch a glimpse of what it would have been like to attend the original Olympics. She skillfully led us through the museum explaining the stories behind the artifacts held there including the statue of Hermes and the statues from the Temple of Zeus.
