Hello! I’m Athena Mandalenaki, a licensed tourist guide from the beautiful island of Crete. My love for travel and exploring new places—both in Greece and abroad—has shaped my life and career. Originally, I studied Environmental Engineering, but my passion for history and culture ultimately led me to pursue a career as a tourist guide. Sharing the beauty, history, and vibrant culture of Greece, while meeting people from all over the world, is what makes my job so fulfilling. I’ve had the privilege of guiding travelers through stunning locations like Santorini, Athens, Olympia, and Delphi. Now, I guide visitors through Crete’s breathtaking landscapes and timeless charm. Crete is truly one of a kind, with its majestic mountains, serene plains, tropical and rugged beaches, delicious food, warm-hearted people, and rich musical traditions. For me, it’s the perfect place to live and share with others. Heraklion, the capital of Crete, has a more urban feel compared to other parts of the island, with endless things to explore and enjoy. In my tours, I blend Crete’s ancient history with its modern-day traditions, creating unique and unforgettable experiences that connect visitors to the island’s deep-rooted heritage. Whether you’re interested in history, culture, or simply enjoying the beauty of Crete, I’m here to help you discover it all. Feel free to reach out to me for a customized tour tailored to your interests and expectations! I’m excited to guide you on your adventure.

Join me for a guided exploration of Minoan Culture and Art. Learn how the early inhabitants of Crete established the first settlements—communities that would eventually evolve into sophisticated cities and give rise to the grandeur of the Minoan palaces. Delve deep into Europe’s earliest advanced civilization, where exquisite frescoes and extraordinary pottery reveal fascinating insights into the Minoans’ history, daily life, and religious beliefs. Continue our journey through time with a visit to the majestic Palace of Knossos, the very heart of Minoan civilization. Walk through its elaborate storage rooms, sacred shrines, and royal quarters, and stand before the legendary Throne Room. Step into the mythic Labyrinth, where the story of the Minotaur still echoes through time. This tour is fully customizable to your interests. Feel free to contact me if you’d like to tailor the experience to your preferences.
- We will begin our tour at the entrance of the Heraklion Archaeological Museum. Our guided visit there will last approximately 2 hours. Most of the historical context and background will be discussed at the museum, where we can enjoy air-conditioning and a comfortable setting. - Later, we’ll meet again at the Palace of Knossos for a guided tour of the most splendid and significant of all Minoan palaces. This part of the tour will last around 1 hour and 15 minutes. - Please note: During the tour, only water is allowed inside the museum and the site. Food and other beverages are not permitted. - Entrance Tickets: The entrance fees are not included in the tour price. You may be entitled to a discount depending on your age or country of residence, so please remember to bring your ID or a copy with you. - Tickets can be pre-booked online, but it’s also possible to purchase them on-site. If you choose not to pre-book, I’ll assist you with skipping the line at Knossos.
