We will visit Knossos, the largest and most famous of the Minoan palaces, the residence of the mythical King Minos and the monster Minotaur, a multi-acre complex of royal apartments, elaborate staircases, storage and craft areas, the first European theater, and a throne room with the original Bronze Age throne. Replicas of many frescoes grace the palace. A walking tour of Heraklion, Crete's largest city, is a must on this tour. Crete's largest city abounds with buildings, monuments, and churches that bear witness to its centuries-old history, among them the Morozini Fountain, the Venetian Loggia, St. Titus Church, etc After free time for lunch, we will visit the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion, one of the greatest museums in the world. It hosts the unique Minoan art
Our guide in Heraklion, Vangelis, was very personable, highly knowledgeable and engaging. He brought to life the ancient palace of Knossos and Minoan way of life. He also provided an informative tour of the town and an incredible tour of the archeological museum. This tour was a highlight of our time in Crete. We highly recommend it!

Extraordinary guide. Super well versed in the history of the region. Extremely easy to communicate with. All of our questions were answered in a detailed and comprehensive way. We generally are pleased with Tours by Locals guides, but Vangelis is one of the best!
Vangelis has a deep love for history, and he was an excellent, informative guide! He got our tickets quickly (despite long lines), and arranged for us to see the throne room without a long wait. He directed us to coffee & an authentic Greek lunch, with interesting churches to visit nearby. We wanted to buy dried herbs, and he showed us the street with markets. He was priceless at the Archeological Museum, since he knew what (& where) to see important artifacts/displays. I recommend him most highly!!
