Full Day Tour -Traditional Villages - Zeus Birthplace- Olive Oil Factory Old Wind Mills

We started our day with Edmond (Ed), picking us up from our hotel. He was prompt, friendly and very knowledgeable of Crete and all of Greece. We were traveling with our two adult sons (one being a classics major), Edmond made us feel welcome, answered many questions while telling us history and stories. We enjoyed a comfortable ride in a van and his driving was excellent through the narrow streets and up through the mountains. We stopped many times to see the view from the top and to see olive trees (learned of their history in Greece), we visited an olive oil farm and had a sit down tasting of oil that was processed there, with bread, oil, tomatoes and olives, of course. We continued on to a small village Mochos for coffee walking around seeing the small shops and beautiful church. We traveled through farms with a tasting of tomatoes and strawberries. We enjoyed a glass of wine while there. We would have seen Dikteon Cave (birthplace of Zeus) but it was closed to visitors (which he told us when we booked our tour). He took us to see the original windmills near the restaurant where we had a wonderful lunch with a great view of the Lasithi plateau. Every part of this tour was top notch, great conversation with Ed. He seemed like a friend by the time we arrived back at our hotel. He also gave us recommendations of where to eat in Heraklion and visit for the rest of our time in Crete. We would highly recommend his tour.

Edmond is a great tour guide. He is very funny, humorous and energetic. We all have so much fun all day long. He brought us bread and tomato for the visit in olive oil factory. He took us to the countryside to taste some amazing yogurt; stopped at a farm to have some fresh watermelon and tomatoes. This is our favorite tour for our 12 days cruise.

Best tour ever!!! We’ve taken about 40 tours in ports around the world, and none of them came even close in terms of learning about an area while having a great time. Ed said he'd show us the real Crete. He couldn’t have done a better job. His English is excellent. The back-and-forth banter as we drove from site to site made the miles fly by. He provided lots of information often asking us to participate by guessing the answers. Ed has a wonderful sense of humor and he had us laughing and thoroughly enjoying the time in the van. We went places not visited by other tours. We had traditional iced coffee, picked & ate watermelon, strawberries, and cherry tomatoes.
