If falling in love with a city and moving mountains to be able to live there counts, then I am definitely a true-blue local. It was love at first sight and I have lived in Dresden since 2009. In these years I have explored its cobbled streets, studied the history, delved into its past to unearth stories and have immersed myself in its present. I am, frankly speaking, besotted with my adopted city. A post graduate in Psychology, I worked in the field of counselling for many years and am now a passionate historian as well. My mother, who was taken aback by my new career choice, decided that her daughter was now working in the field of psycho-history! Turns out, surprisingly, that there is actually such a term used for those who examine the 'why' of history and not just the facts. Well, I like that very much indeed! My tours reflect my desire to find connections, join the dots, look at the bigger context and the human motivations that shape events. This very drive was the one that led me to create the Third Reich Tour and also study the post WW2 period and the impact of the Cold War on Saxony. For those guests who do not want to delve into such aspects, my tours can be fun, interesting and relaxed as well. Over the years, I have studied continuously and gained permission to guide in the various museums of Dresden. Therefore if you wish to combine the tour of the city with a visit to the Royal Palace or Old Masters Gallery, or even the Stasi Museum, it isn't a problem at all. Or we could leave the city behind and undertake an excursion to a neighbouring sight such as Schloss Pliinitz, Saxon Switzerland, Meissen or Leipzig. In a nutshell, lets work it out together so that you can make the most out of your stay in Dresden, Saxony. Write to me! Master's degree in Psychology. Certified guide in Dresden City and member of the Dresden Guides Association as well as of the Federal Association of Guides in Germany. In addition to being a certified guide for Dresden city, I also hold the following licences: The New Green Vault Museum in Dresden The Old Masters Gallery, Dresden The Meissen Porcelain Factory Schloss Pillnitz I am also allowed to guide in the Stasi Memorial in Dresden and can guide you through the cities of Meissen and Leipzig as well. Due to constraints, I cannot act as a driver-guide. I can arrange for a car and driver. My German fluency is conversational but asking me to do a tour in German would be torturous for both you and me :-) Let's stay with English! PS: In case you see me marked as ‘unavailable or busy’ during a weekday when you are here, please do check with me anyway. I may be able to make myself available.

Hear the stories of ambitions, dreams and secrets which will bring the city and its history alive. Discover the Dresden of today and of ages past while walking through the resurrected city centre and taking in the iconic city landmarks such as the Royal Cathedral, Church of Our Lady, the Semper Opera, the spectacular Dresden Zwinger, Procession of Princes and the Royal Castle filled with its ample treasures. These are some of the many buildings you will see from the outside. I will also discuss possible options of what you can do after the tour ends. This is an essential tour to get introduced to Dresden. It can be customised and adapted or even extended in several ways depending on your interests. It can, for example, include a short 'coffee and (scrumptious) cake' break that the Germans so love, add on one of the museums or combine it with an excursion to Pillnitz (see my 'Pleasure Gardens of Pillnitz' tour for details), or schedule a wine tasting to sample the local wine.
During the tour we will walk past and see from the outside the following: - Royal Cathedral: There's an entertaining story there about its construction. Curious? - Theater Platz and Semper Opera: Dionysius and Goethe are clearly visible, but there's an unexpected literary figure to be found. - Dresden Zwinger: See this venue for extravagant parties demonstrating power and wealth. - The Royal Palace: They've been painstakingly reconstructing it for years and I'll like to show you the results while walking through two of its courtyards open to the public. - The Procession of Princes with its wealth of hidden symbols. This is my personal favorite as I love discovering new ones. - Church of Our Lady: this magnificent structure represents the city's rebirth. If the Church is open at the time of our tour we will take a look inside. - The New Synagogue: Will you like it or hate it? It's always 50-50, find out which camp you belong to! Coffee and cake break if planned.

The city centre of Dresden that has most of the iconic landmarks is accessible only by walking. So a pair of comfortable walking shoes is all you need.
Schloßplatz, Dresden, Germany
Airport: ,Cruise: ,ByGuide: I would prefer to begin in the city centre at Schloss Platz at the statue of Friedrich August on the middle of the square. However I am willing to pick you up from elsewhere if you prefer. Just write in and we can discuss it.
