If falling in love with a city and moving mountains to be able to live there counts, then I am definitely a true-blue local. It was love at first sight and I have lived in Dresden since 2009. In these years I have explored its cobbled streets, studied the history, delved into its past to unearth stories and have immersed myself in its present. I am, frankly speaking, besotted with my adopted city. A post graduate in Psychology, I worked in the field of counselling for many years and am now a passionate historian as well. My mother, who was taken aback by my new career choice, decided that her daughter was now working in the field of psycho-history! Turns out, surprisingly, that there is actually such a term used for those who examine the 'why' of history and not just the facts. Well, I like that very much indeed! My tours reflect my desire to find connections, join the dots, look at the bigger context and the human motivations that shape events. This very drive was the one that led me to create the Third Reich Tour and also study the post WW2 period and the impact of the Cold War on Saxony. For those guests who do not want to delve into such aspects, my tours can be fun, interesting and relaxed as well. Over the years, I have studied continuously and gained permission to guide in the various museums of Dresden. Therefore if you wish to combine the tour of the city with a visit to the Royal Palace or Old Masters Gallery, or even the Stasi Museum, it isn't a problem at all. Or we could leave the city behind and undertake an excursion to a neighbouring sight such as Schloss Pliinitz, Saxon Switzerland, Meissen or Leipzig. In a nutshell, lets work it out together so that you can make the most out of your stay in Dresden, Saxony. Write to me! Master's degree in Psychology. Certified guide in Dresden City and member of the Dresden Guides Association as well as of the Federal Association of Guides in Germany. In addition to being a certified guide for Dresden city, I also hold the following licences: The New Green Vault Museum in Dresden The Old Masters Gallery, Dresden The Meissen Porcelain Factory Schloss Pillnitz I am also allowed to guide in the Stasi Memorial in Dresden and can guide you through the cities of Meissen and Leipzig as well. Due to constraints, I cannot act as a driver-guide. I can arrange for a car and driver. My German fluency is conversational but asking me to do a tour in German would be torturous for both you and me :-) Let's stay with English! PS: In case you see me marked as ‘unavailable or busy’ during a weekday when you are here, please do check with me anyway. I may be able to make myself available.

Meißen was the cradle of Saxony, a bustling city in the 10th -15th Century. Then it declined in importance. The upside? It still retains its quaint charm, narrow cobblestone streets and buildings that date back to as early as 13th Century. We will wander the city centre and visit an architectural marvel considered the earliest residential castle in Germany built in the 15th Century: the Albrechtsburg and its loyal companion the Cathedral- a pure Gothic structure. The pièce de résistance however is the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory where artists lovingly work their material to create Saxony's coveted and admired 'White Gold'. The demonstration workshops provide an opportunity to see the process and the museum showcases the 300 years. The Café serves coffee in pure Meissen cups, and the boutique and outlet stores allow shopping for a future family heirloom. We can have lunch overlooking the red rooftops of Meißen or in the square with the oldest Renaissance buildings.
We take the train from Dresden Saxony to Meissen and first visit the Manufactory where you will take a tour of the demonstration workshops with an audio guide. Then I will guide you through the museum and allow you time for shopping. This will be a total of about 1. 5 hours. We will then take a shuttle to get to the top of the castle hill. Here we will visit Albrechtsburg castle. The castle Histopads will provide a glimpse into court life in the 1400 and 1500s. This will be followed by a visit to the Meissen Dom. We can then lunch at a local restaurant with a view of the rooftops before walking down the hill exploring the narrow cobble streets and old buildings, or have lunch in the market square once we reach the bottom of the hill. This walk takes about 15-20 minutes. We then walk back to the station (another 15 minutes or so) to take the train back to Dresden.

We will travel by public transport for this tour. The S-Bahn or regional train runs every 30 minutes and takes about 25 mins to get to Meissen. From there it is only a 10 minute walk to the Meissen Manufactory. From the factory we take the shuttle up to the castle. On the way down from the castle we walk and explore the town.
Meissen, Saxony, 01, Germany
As mentioned above: at the station preferably, or from a location of your choice. I would also be able to travel with the guests from Dresden and back again
