Towers of the many monastaries, chapels, basilica's and parish churches still dominate the monumental sihouette of the city. I will lead you to the most beautiful spots in the historic centre, including the Onze Lieve Vrouweplein (square) and basilica, the town ramparts, the parks, the Vrijthof with the monumental Basilica of St. Servatius and the Bonnefantenmuseum (when open).

We meet each other at the starting point Elisen Brunnen ( enjoy a nice pre-tour coffee in the Elissenbrunnen Eiscafé or Restaurant ). Aachen has an attractive city center with important historic buildings as the Dom Cathedral ( Unesco heritage site ) and Rathaus Town Hall. Both monuments tell visitors the story of Charlemagne / Charles the Great, the famous emperor of western Europe around 800. Maastricht Half day private walking tour of Sphinxkwartier and Frontenpark

Start in the old industrial quarter of the former ceramic industry of Maastricht at the Eiffel-building ( just 300 meter distance from Market Square ). Pricing is per group (max. 15 pers. per guide ). The tour is excellent for groups, schools, associations. etc.

The quarter is now completely redeveloped with charming restaurants, pubs, art-houses, cinemas, terraces, rooftopbar, harbor, coffee-houses, etc. Interesting is the 120 meter long corridor with the history of 170 years of ceramic industry on 30. 000 tiles. The Sphinxkwartier has the ERIH-label ( European Route of Industrial Heritage ).

Around the corner is the Frontenpark, 60 - 70 acres of a raw landscape park with the old fortifications and city walls along canals. This park proves that Maastricht was a real stronghold for centuries. During this tour, I will show both areas, the old industrial quarter and the Frontenpark.

Maastricht, the 30th "Old Hickory" infantry division, the fortress of Eben-Emael, Margraten and Henry-Chapelle war cemeteries, Withuis, The Siegfried line, Stavelot, La-Gleize. . .

These are just a handful of the names that will pop up when we talk about the Second World War in our region. A region that was close to the borders of Belgium and Germany. Not one, but two World Wars erupted in that same region! Although the second World War is much more known, there are some really interesting facts and locations to be visited that refer to the First World War. How about the burning down of the bordertown of Visé? The railway viaduct at Moresnet build by russian POW's in 1916/17? Join me in this tour to learn all about it.

On this tour I will take you back in time into the history of WW II. Places where the traces of the war are still visible like the memorials, cemetery and bunkers.

We start at the fortress of Eben Emael in Belgium 6 km from Maastricht. Here the history comes to live. This was the biggest en strongest fortifications in Europe. An immense underground complex with barracks for 1200 soldiers, galeries and bunkers. We will learn al about the secret and innovative German plans for the attack of the fortress.

After that we will visit caves that also have been used during WWII. Caves where a great hiding place and shelter during the war for citizens and soldiers. Experience yourself how it must have been like t hide underground

We will be driving through the beautiful country side with it hills to Margraten. There we will visit the Largest American cemetery. The final resting place of more the 5000 Americans who gave their life in World War II. This impresive place leaves you without words.
