Alexandria, often called the Mermaid of the Mediterranean, is Egypt’s dazzling coastal gem and the nation’s second largest city after Cairo — often regarded as its cultural capital. Founded in 331 BC by Alexander the Great, who dreamed of leaving his name eternal in history, the city was designed by the brilliant Greek architect Dinocrates on the site of the ancient village of Rhakotis. Over the centuries, Alexandria blossomed into a thriving center of art, knowledge, and trade — a city where civilizations met and legends were born. It once served as the glorious capital of the Ptolemaic dynasty, adorned with magnificent temples, palaces, and the famous Lighthouse of Alexandria, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Today, the city still captivates visitors with its timeless charm, offering countless treasures to see and stories to experience — a true blend of history, culture, and sea breeze magic.
Pick-up: From your hotel in Cairo. Our professional driver will take you on a comfortable drive (about 180 km) along the Cairo–Alexandria Desert Road. Upon arrival in Alexandria, we’ll begin our sightseeing tour. First Stop: The Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa (1st century A.D.), one of the most fascinating Greco-Roman archaeological sites in Egypt. Next: Explore the ruins of the Serapeum, the main temple of ancient Alexandria, once dedicated to the god Serapis. Then: Visit the impressive Bibliotheca Alexandrina, a modern revival of the ancient Library of Alexandria. (Please note: the library is closed on Fridays and Saturdays, and guided tours must be booked in advance.) After that: Continue to the Graeco-Roman Museum, which houses a rich collection of artifacts from Alexandria’s glorious past. Return: At the end of the tour, you’ll drive back safely to Cairo.
