We begin at Cairo’s ancient 11th century gates and walk along Elmoez Street, a UNESCO World Heritage site lined with thirty three historic monuments. The street feels like a living timeline, where centuries of architecture blend seamlessly with daily life, making it impossible not to photograph its minarets, carved facades, and wooden balconies. Along the way, we enjoy local snacks, fresh sugar cane juice, and hibiscus and mint tea. When the live Adan fills the air, the street seems to pause, offering a peaceful moment of reflection before the walk continues toward the vibrant Khan el Khalili market. I love ending the day at the Makan Cultural Center with a rare performance by Mazaher, the only band preserving this unique musical tradition. Once ritualistic and spiritual, their music now takes on a more worldly form, leaving a lasting impression and perfectly capturing the soul of Cairo.
Pick up from your hotel or Airbnb * Arrive at Al Foutouh Gate. Visit Al Hakim Mosque from the inside to experience the calm atmosphere of the mosque, the peaceful open courtyard, and the ablution fountain accompanied by images of flying pigeons. * PM Continue on to the Khan el Khalili market where merchants sell handcrafted items and politely offer excellent bargains on high quality goods. You definitely need an experienced shopper like me to assist you in negotiating and securing the best prices! * Depart the market and transfer to the Makan Cultural Center * A prior reservation is arranged to attend a Mazaher performance featuring Egyptian and Sudanese percussion, including vocal chanting, instrumental melodies, and rhythmic drumming. Please note the performance is available only on Sundays and Wednesdays. Kindly note this tour can be tailored. Use the “message guide” button to contact me for a personalized experience.
