This was a superb tour. We only had one day in Copenhagen and wanted to see as much as possible. Our tour guide Susanne delivered a wonderfully memorable tour in every respect. Taking us on a walking tour of the city we managed to hit the 3 principal palaces. Throughout Susanne kept up a lively commentary pointing out the various places of interest and providing interest tidbits on each. At the palaces she was a fountain of information filling us in on both the items we were seeing as well as providing the needed historical context. Halfway through she took us to a wonderful little restaurant for a delightful meal, and at that point a much welcome rest. Overall, the tour was exactly what we were looking for, and Susanne was absolutely the best. We look forward to another trip to this beautiful city.

Let me share with you my passion for a good story, Danish history at its best and everything worth knowing about Danes, happiness and our renowned "hygge". I am an Authorised Guide graduated from Roskilde University and work as a full-time guide. I have lived in Copenhagen for most of my life but also lived in England for a long time allowing me to view Denmark both with the eyes of an insider and an outsider. I enjoy making history come to life. I may put the huge Danish Empire of the past back on the map, sometimes the Vikings come out complete with war paint, tattoos and dragon ships, or I may give my guests a real sense of the life of the Danish Royal family as it unfolded itself at the numerous royal palaces and castles. Whilst walking, cycling or driving around the back streets of medieval Copenhagen I enjoy creating a picture that appeals to the imagination and the senses of my guests; images that bring to life the carriages rattling over the cobbled streets, the hustle and bustle of city life and the distinctive character and smells of the old city. But what about Danes today? You might think that, being amongst the happiest people on the planet, Danes are walking around with a permanent grin on their faces. Well, no they are not but I will make sure that, by the end of our tour, you will know exactly what makes Danes so happy. In Copenhagen the absolute majority use bicycles and public transport to get around so naturally most of my tours are on foot or bicycles. Should you prefer to travel by car I will arrange for a car with a professional driver to take us around the city or further afield to visit the royal castles North of Copenhagen or Roskilde with its cathedral and Viking Ship Museum. Some Swedes think that Danes are untrustworthy anarchists. True or false? We could nip over to Sweden to re-visit old Danish territory and learn what the Swedes are like! Overview of your Copenhagen tour
The size of Denmark belies its incredible history as an empire to be reckoned with in times gone by. Copenhagen was the heart of this empire. On this tour we will look at our Viking ancestors and what these notorious traders, looters and conquerors got up to and how Copenhagen was a part of an extensive Viking trading network. The Danish Empire grew during the Middle Ages and into colonial times to encompass a huge territory as the country developed into a formidable naval power. Wars were prevalent throughout our history, not least with Sweden, but also included major battles with England. Hear about life during German occupation, the Danish Resistance Movement and the country's remarkable effort to help Danes of Jewish origin escape to Sweden. The life of the Royals also offers endless stories of outrageous behaviour, tragic dramas and heart breaking love stories. It is all of this history which, in one way or another, has made Denmark the now very small but quite happy nation that that we are today.

Susanne made our first trip to Copenhagen a delightful experience. We had exchanged several messages before we arrived and felt we were already friends when we met her. Susanne planned our tour to cover what we had requested, and she provided great value with our tour. We saw the planned sights plus others that arose and as a special surprise Susanne had located two special shopping venues for us. We had engaged Susanne for a private tour expecting we could decide to vary the itinerary and to address subjects of interest in as much detail as we wanted. She provided everything we had hoped to have and confirmed the benefit of booking a private tour. Susanne provided excellent value on our tour with her and if our travels lead us to Copenhagen again our priority will be to contact Susanne for another tour. We have no doubt the encore will equal or exceed the original.
