Enjoy this immersive Chiloé Island shore excursion beginning in Castro, with a visit to the historic Church of San Francisco, the regional museum, and a stroll through the iconic Pedro Montt palafitos, the island’s traditional stilt houses built over the water. Travel to Dalcahue and take a short ferry ride to Quinchao Island, with highlights including Curaco de Vélez, the historic Church of Achao (circa 1730), and Villa Quinchao, home to the largest of Chiloé’s UNESCO-listed wooden churches. Continue north to Quemchi, including a visit to the House Museum of acclaimed Chilean writer Francisco Coloane, followed by a walk across a long wooden footbridge to Aucar Island, known as the “Island of the Seafaring Souls.” Stop in Colo, Tenaún, and San Juan to see some of the island’s most distinctive heritage churches and a traditional boatyard where wooden boats are still handcrafted. Before returning to Castro, stop in Dalcahue to visit its heritage church and artisan market.
