Registered guide at SERNATUR (National Tourism Service of Chile). Degree in Environmental Analysis with a focus on environmental journalism since 1997. InterestsBirdwatching enthusiast, certified by the Ornithological Association of the Plata (1999). Completed courses on Animal Behavior and studied Italian at Dante Alighieri, San Miguel de Tucumán (2016). Volunteer ExperienceVolunteered at the GUIRA OGA Bird Sanctuary in Misiones and at Loitokitok School in Kenya. Guiding Experience: I’ve guided in renowned parks such as Torres del Paine and Vicente Pérez Rosales, among many other spectacular destinations. Memorable Adventures: I’ve had the privilege of summiting Mount Kilimanjaro and Toubkal, trekking the High Inca Trail in Peru, exploring the Atlas Mountains in Morocco, and my favorite, the W Trek in Torres del Paine. I’ve also participated in two-week horse riding expeditions between Chile and Argentina. Just the drive between Puerto Varas and Frutillar is a lovely, relax, bucolic landscape shaped by green hills, German style houses built with alerce redwood shingles. The Chilean government encouraged German immigration in 1848, a time of revolution in Germany. The origin of the German immigrants in Chile began with the Law of Selective Immigration of 1845. The objective of this law was to bring people of a medium social/high cultural level to colonize the southern regions of Chile; these were between Valdivia and Puerto Montt. The process was administered by Vicente Pérez Rosales by mandate of the then-president Manuel Montt. The German immigrants revived the domestic economy, and they changed the southern zones. This is the natural Puerto Montt outskirts with agriculture and nature which I will make you discover and learn about the potato planting, agriculture life, community work and small sustainable economies involving farming.

Maria gave us an excellent tour which was devoted to our specific interests. She altered her original plan to provide us with a real feel for life in Puerto Montt. We found her English to be excellent which allowed us to develop a more nuanced understanding of the area and culture. Tours by locals has always done well for us and Maria was no exception.

Our tour from Puerto Montt was a delight, made special by Maria and her driver. They took us on a casual drive along the lakeside roads and through several villages or towns. Our day was capped by a delicious lunch in Frutillar in a German-influenced restaurant. We knew we were dining with the locals when a large group near us sang "Happy Birthday" in Spanish to one of their party. We recommend Maria highly and imagine that she'll provide a thoroughly professional and courteous tour among the locals.
Maria's English was perfect. Her tour included a visit to a local theater and some local food for us to sample. Working with a driver, allowed her to concentrate on our questions and be fully present for us. I highly recommend her.

German style houses and barns that once represented that wealthy economy during the IXX century and according to the time of the year, many products from the earth such as raps, oats, potatoes or beetroots plantations and cattle ranches. •Free time to walk around and enjoy the delightful gardens taking photos or visit the German Museum that shows many of the machineries used, water mill, houses and lovely gardens. Or just enjoy the views having a nice coffee and delicious fresh kuchen (cake) at the renowned Teatro del Lago (not included). Stop at Puerto Varas on the way back to get a delicious ice cream…and time permitting the craft market in Angelmo, Puerto Montt. •We will return to your port.
