Neyla was superb. She arrived early for our pick up at the hotel. She had contacted us a day or two before our scheduled trip to a later pick up so that we would miss most of the traffic congestion to the Botanical Park. Doing this one little thing was very thoughtful and allowed us more time to do what we wanted and not sit in a Rio traffic jam. The walk through the Tijunca forest was wonderful. We were not rushed, we got to stop and explore areas and take some great photos. The plants we saw were unique and with great stories. A one of a kind experience. Due to the heat and humidity, we had to end our trip a bit earlier. Neyla quickly got us to a cooler area and arranged for us to get a ride to the gate to meet the car without having to walk back to the nearest gate. She followed up with us the next day to see if all was good (it was). We have taken many excursions. Neyla was more than a guide, she was a friend that looked out for us. Overview of your Rio De Janeiro tour
The serene landscape is a respite from the rest of the city with tropical plants, trees and shrubs that offers a quiet interlude in bustling Rio. Even on the hottest days the visitor can walk in the garden, shaded from the sun by the tall palms, trees and bamboo stands. The royal palm alley is the symbol of the gardens and is very impressive. The bromeliad and orchids glass house features many unusual varieties. Here and there you will find benches to sit and take a rest while looking out for the creatures that make it home; monkeys, toucans and other facinating creatures that flit, fly and leap through the canopy overhead. The visitor's house offers a selection of books and postcards for the guests. It is never crowded and it appears that most of the visitors are locals or at least Brazilians. Is a real contrast to the very crowded city outside and a very relaxing place to spend time.

I chose Neyla as I was travelling alone in Rio and preferred a female guide. Neyla was the perfect choice as she is very knowledgable and I had a very enjoyable visit to the Botanical Gardens, the gardens are beautiful. I was interested in conversing about politics and the general day to day issues that concern Brazilians. She did not seem to be interested in doing so. However, Neyla's cute Italian charm was a plus.
Neyla arrived promptly at our hotel with a fellow guide in his large van as her car had broken down on her the previous afternoon and was in the shop for repairs. She was very professional, personable, accommodating, helpful and knowledgeable - a perfect guide for us. At her suggestion, we also stopped at a local fresh fruit and veggie market on the way to the Botanical Garden for some great photo ops and delicious bites of tropical fruits, as well as at the Chinese lookout on the way back. Your Rio De Janeiro tour itinerary
Pick up at the hotel and visit this piece of paradise in a privileged location. Sited between the steep slopes of the Mata Atlantica (coastal rain forest) and the Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas (the lagoon abutting Ipanema and Leblon, today the neighborhood of the rich and famous), the location was chosen because it was outside the city and a stream of clean water cascaded down from the hills and could run thru channels to irrigate the plants. The garden is a very nice place to spend minimum 2 hours. It's a very large, formally manicured garden with beautiful, giant, old trees. The orchid house is phenomenal--many of species all in bloom. You will see famous royal palms, "pau-mulato", BrazilTree" and some of the 6, 500 different plants, including many endangered species and the medicinal plots and the Japanese gardens. There are many monuments of artistic and historical importance. You'll also find the largest library in Brazil specialized in Botany. A spectacular ecological sanctuary for all ages!
