Tour Lower Manhattan, Brooklyn and Harlem as you explore New Yok City during the American Revolution. The first major battle after the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the largest in the entire war was right here in Brooklyn and Upper Manhattan. It was a decisive defeat for George Washington and the Americans as the British retook the city away from the colonists and kept it as the central of British occupation. While an American defeat, it helped to establish the pattern that would eventually win the eight-year war for the Americans. The battles , the retreats, the strongholds were all about the geography , the topography of Manhattan and Brooklyn, Harlem. So much of New York has changed over the 200 plus years as New York continued growing as a major global center , but the basic platform - the harbor, the heights, the rivers remain.
