Greetings from New York City! I'm Richard, a licensed tour guide, and I love New York. I'm a third-generation New Yorker, the grandson of Jewish immigrants from Eastern Europe. I've lived here all my life. My perspective of the city is enriched and broadened by the variety of paths I've taken here. For twenty-five years, I was a professional illustrator, a career that immersed me in New York's publishing and art worlds. I was also an office worker throughout the city, including ten years in the World Trade Center. When I was an art student at Pratt Institute, I got to know Brooklyn more—wow, what a fascinating place. I am continually awed by the charm and cultural richness of my city. I hold a New York State teacher's license, as well as a Masters in Education. These, and the years I taught in the city's public schools, in tandem with my enthusiasm and New York life experience, help make me a great New York City tour guide. Any tour with me will be fun, informative and stimulating. Thanks to New York City's vastness and diversity, each tour can be as individual as a client's tastes and interests. Overview of your New York City tour
Thanks to New York's vastness and diversity, a tour's agenda can be as individual as a client's tastes and interests. When planning, I ask clients about their particular tour goals—such as learning the layout of the city, or exploring a specific neighborhood—and interests, such as history, architecture, or pop culture. I also enjoy exposing visitors to places that are less known, but peculiarly New York—hidden gems. We can travel by foot, and possibly by subway, taxi, and/or boat. When I was a teacher, I'd observe and assess a student before and during a lesson so I knew it was the right fit for them. That's how I approach my tours—continually focused on ensuring yours is the best tour for you.

We had a wonderful day with Richard! He was the best guide ever! He carefully planned a custom day full of our wishes. He was personable, friendly and relaxed and we felt totally comfortable spending the day with him. We did so much- he met us at our hotel in Times Square and then we went to Brooklyn Heights, DUMBO, walked the Brooklyn Bridge, Little Italy, Chinatown, Greenwich Village, and got to ride the subways. We really couldn't have covered so much ground on our own, not to mention the knowledge he gave us. He took us to places we had no clue about in the city. We learned about the city's part in the abolition and the underground railroad and migrant history in the city, and architecture. He included a trip to the African Burial Ground National Monument which we had no clue existed and we are so glad we learned about it. We also got to go to a really cool old pub, see the street from the Freewheelin' Bob album cover and the building from Get the Lead Out. He also let us take lots of detours to shop and eat. We all had a great time- including my teenage son! We will definitely do another tour with him and will recommend him to our friends and family.

Richard is amazing!!! I have recommended him for others and will continue to do so. Reasons: he has a vaste knowledge of history, he knows the whys behind things. He worked in NYC and saw the city grow. He is flexible on the pace of the tour. He adjusted to help my 75 year old mom enjoy and my 40 year old daughter. He is friendly and will answer questions. If he doesn't know he says so, he doesn't make anything up! Also, he is an avid reader and made recommendations.

We had a great tour with Richard. We sent him a short list of what we wanted to see, we accomplished our short list prior to lunch. He took us to many of the sites that you would want to see in New York. Richard is very knowledgeable about the buildings, their age, architecture and original builders. Not only the buildings, but also the whole town. Richard checked in with us to see if we were doing ok physically (as we covered MILES of New York walking). It was a great tour and Richard was excellent!
