My life journey brought me to the area because I fell in love with New York City. I settled in Hoboken, a small charming town right across the Hudson from Manhattan, and have been here for over 20 years. I've been working as a New York City tour guide for over 10 years now, taking people to see the major landmarks as well as secret little spots off the beaten tourist path. I love telling stories behind what meets the eye - stories involving famous writers, daring architects, beautiful women, self-made millionaires, and countless other colorful characters. At first, Hoboken attracted me for its easy proximity to Manhattan, which I've been enjoying almost every day. But with time, I've discovered the charm and beauty of this unique little town, known as the Mile Square City. Tiny in size, it has the energy of a big city as well as the cozy feel of a neighborhood. This town features sidewalk cafes, streets lined with 19th-century brownstones, old Italian shops where one can get the best freshly made mozzarella on this side of the Atlantic, and a waterfront with breathtaking views of Manhattan. Hoboken was made world-famous by being the shooting location for the movie On the Waterfront starring the young Marlon Brando, the setting of the first baseball game ever played, and the birthplace of Frank Sinatra. I've always loved the energy of a big city but living here learned to appreciate the neighborhood feel - when your butcher knows your name and asks about your family, and the owner of a local restaurant is your next-door neighbor. I can take you around this charming little town, which feels like one of the City boroughs. I can show you New York City's skyline and point out its many landmarks. I can take you to Manhattan to enjoy a day of sightseeing or a night of jazz, secret speakeasies, well-made cocktails, and swing dancing. When visiting New York, I'm sure you expect to see all the iconic New York landmarks like the Brooklyn Bridge, Times Square, the Empire State Building, etc. We will walk around the city and travel by subway to see the famous places and so much more. Along with the best-known sites, there are hidden gems of architecture, lesser-known places, and spots the locals enjoy. It's a big city, and it's really tricky to see New York in the space of one day. If your time in NYC is limited, or you want to get an overview of the city before exploring it further, this is a tour for you. A big part of our adventure will be the story of the city, its buildings, and its famous and infamous inhabitants.
Here is a sample itinerary. The order might change depending on our starting points. Before the tour we will discuss your preferences, interests, and will build around it. In Midtown, we will see: - Rockefeller Center - St. Patrick's Cathedral - Grand Central Terminal - New York Public Library - The Empire State Building - The Chrysler Building We will take a subway downtown to visit: - Wall Street - Federal Hall - Trinity Church - The New York Stock Exchange - Charging Bull - The Brooklyn Bridge - World Trade Center and 9/11 Memorial - A view to the Statue of Liberty Another hop on a subway will take us to Greenwich Village or a Flatiron District (we will decide) - Washington Square Park - 75½ Bedford Street - The Flatiron - MetLife Tower The last subway ride of the day to: - Times Square At the end of the tour, I could recommend places to spend an evening with good food and great music.
