Greetings from New York City! I'm Richard, a licensed tour guide, and I love New York. I'm a third-generation New Yorker, the grandson of Jewish immigrants from Eastern Europe. I've lived here all my life. My perspective of the city is enriched and broadened by the variety of paths I've taken here. For twenty-five years, I was a professional illustrator, a career that immersed me in New York's publishing and art worlds. I was also an office worker throughout the city, including ten years in the World Trade Center. When I was an art student at Pratt Institute, I got to know Brooklyn more—wow, what a fascinating place. I am continually awed by the charm and cultural richness of my city. I hold a New York State teacher's license, as well as a Masters in Education. These, and the years I taught in the city's public schools, in tandem with my enthusiasm and New York life experience, help make me a great New York City tour guide. Any tour with me will be fun, informative and stimulating. Thanks to New York City's vastness and diversity, each tour can be as individual as a client's tastes and interests. Thanks to New York's vastness and diversity, a tour's agenda can be as individual as a client's tastes and interests. When planning, I ask clients about their particular tour goals—such as learning the layout of the city, or exploring a specific neighborhood—and interests, such as history, architecture, or pop culture. I also enjoy exposing visitors to places that are less known, but peculiarly New York—hidden gems. We can travel by foot, and possibly by subway, taxi, and/or boat. When I was a teacher, I'd observe and assess a student before and during a lesson so I knew it was the right fit for them. That's how I approach my tours—continually focused on ensuring yours is the best tour for you.
Great tour! Great guide!
Richard is very knowledge and passionate about all things NY! He injected both of these qualities into every aspect of my two-(rainy)day walking tour of Brooklyn and Manhattan, which he designed masterfully based on my interests. I have visited NYC at least twenty times before, yet seen the city with Richard was in many ways seeing it for the first time. 100% recommended!!!
Richard is someone who loves his city and sharing his knowledge. Our two day tour was a whirlwind of sights, sounds and tastes. From the Staten Island Ferry, to the financial district, to Central Park and Brooklyn - and everything in between - we saw it. Quaint neighborhoods where his love for architecture and art shown through to some the best cannoli and coffee in the city. A bar with a 170 year history to great pizza - he thought of it all. We definitely saw parts of New York that were off the beaten path and are not on the “big” tours. I cannot recommend him enough. He is an incredible ambassador for his city and it’s unique neighborhoods.
Richard was so enthusiastic about showing us his city. We were able to see everything that was important to us, then everything Richard felt we should see. It is so interesting to see places you have only seen pictures of. We had never been to New York before, so things locals take for granted, such as the subway, was fascinating to us. We highly recommend Richard as a guide for Mew York.
Richard was very knowledgeable about NYC and its many attractions. He was very easy to communicate with and enjoyed questions. We also found him to be very flexible regarding schedule and the stops we wanted to make. My wife and I very much enjoyed our two days of tours with Richard as our guide. Kim and Christy
Richard is an amazing tour guide! Professional, yet relaxed, highly knowledgeable about architecture, history, areas of popular interest as well as lesser-known details that leave you feeling that you have truly experienced NYC! Prior teacher so easily relates to and engages all ages. Knows all the best places to eat! My son and I toured with Richard and I booked him again when I brought my sister to the city. Highly recommend!

When not walking, subway is the fastest and most reliable form of NYC transportation. If and when preferred, we can use taxi cabs.
