I love the island of Oahu for all the outdoor activities she offers: hiking, swimming, canoe paddling, etc. But there's more to like about the Hawaiian Islands than natural beauty. The history and mythology of the Hawaiian people captivate locals and visitors alike. I enjoy learning about them and sharing my knowledge. When family or friends visit, I take them around to the places I enjoy (sightseeing, restaurants, activities) or, if time does not permit, I draw up itineraries for them to explore on their own. From President Obama's favorite shave ice stand to hidden waterfalls and spectacular vistas, I will help you discover way more of the island than you could driving a rental car. I speak some Spanish and would particularly enjoy touring Spanish speakers around. ¡Bienvenidos! Les invito viajar conmigo. Whether you're a WWII history buff or aren't familiar with Pearl Harbor's significance, several movies about the Japanese Imperial Navy's attack there are worth watching or re-watching. Try "Pearl Harbor, " "Midway, " and "Tora!Tora!Tora!" Visit Pearl Harbor Visitors Center and USS Arizona Memorial for an unforgettable experience. Learn about the attack on December 7, 1941, which President Franklin Roosevelt called "a date which will live in infamy. " A documentary film and several exhibits provide a glimpse of pre-war Honolulu and a moving testimonial to the ingenuity and bravery of our armed forces. From Pearl Harbor we switch gears and experience the North Shore's famous surf beaches and scenic beauty, including a stroll through Waimea Valley to a waterfall, where you can swim if you'd like. Along the way we stop for lunch at a food truck court and round out the day with a shave ice or slice of Ted's Bakery pie.
