Our walking tour explores one of Boston's oldest and most picturesque neighborhoods. You'll learn the story of Beacon Hill from its colonial beginnings to the architectural vision of Charles Bulfinch and the role his State House design played in the building of the U. S. Capitol. You'll learn how Beacon Hill's development began as a four-person real estate venture that included a charismatic headstrong woman at odds with Boston sensitivities. We'll visit the landmark August Saint Gaudens memorial to the Mass. 54th Regiment and its inspiring role in the Civil War. You'll be intrigued by the stories surrounding some of Beacon Hill's distinctive Federal and Greek Revival row houses, You'll learn how Beacon Hill developed into what we see today, including the creation of historic Louisburg Square. You'll even see the location that served as the inspiration for the TV series Cheers, and many other sites that make Beacon Hill unique.
Key highlights: - Boston Common - Massachusetts State House - Robert Gould Shaw Memorial to Mass. 54th Regiment - Exteriors of various homes along historic Mount Vernon, Chestnut, Acorn and Beacon Streets - Louisburg Square and nearby cobble-stoned Acorn St. - Charles Street Meeting House - Cheers pub site
