Hi there, glad you're thinking of coming to Boston. I adopted Boston as my home town 20 years ago and loved being an informal tour guide to friends and family so much, I made it my profession. I'm originally from Scotland, and so much of Boston's history has links to the UK, I felt instantly at home here. I'm naturally a curious person so moving to a new city gave me a whole load of stuff to explore and learn about. I'm a keen social historian, and have attended lots of courses and lectures about Boston & American history and continue studying to broaden my own knowledge and add content to my tour. Knowing the history of the city is interesting, but my time as a tour guide has taught me that history isn't everybody's cup of tea! The great thing about being a private tour guide is that I can customize each tour to exactly what the group is keen to see and hear about. I'm full of current day stories, fun facts, useless bits of info about the city, famous movie scenes, real estate prices, shopping tips and off the beaten path spots that help me make each tour unique. Boston has such a lively atmosphere and as a foodie who enjoys wine & cocktails I'm always out and about in the city researching places to eat, drink, watch sports, catch a show or live music. This "research" I pass along with tips and suggestions of places to go (and avoid) while in Boston. I love people, and have an up beat, light hearted and relaxed style to touring. I'm Boston's only female driving private tour guide, and am approved and licensed by the Boston Transportation Commissioner and Boston Police Department. I've been a professional private tour guide for 10 years and do driving tours in a new, livery insured 4 passenger Lexus (no space for luggage). Please don't hesitate to get in touch for more info about my Boston tours, any questions you might have or if you need some help customizing a tour, would love to hear from you. Cheers Joan Boston's only fully licensed female driving tour guide Approved to conduct driving tours by Boston Transportation Dept & Boston Police Dept Driving a livery insured vehicle No restrictions

Overview of your Boston tour

Boston is a town like no other. . . . 400 years of history, variety of architecture, old and new neighborhoods, red bricks, cobblestone streets, water views and parks, this is why I love it. By the end of my driving tour, you'll love it too. I like to keep my tour upbeat and light hearted, after all you are on vacation. We'll drive into the oldest and most modern neighborhoods of Boston, pull in at certain sites to compare old and new and I'll share pictures on my iPad that help give context to current day Boston. There's lots of great photo opps along the way, from the historic site of the Boston Massacre, to the iconic Fenway Park to a picturesque cobblestone street. This is the perfect way to orientate yourself to Boston, to see not just the historic sites, but the entire city. As we tour around, I'll give suggestions of places to visit, bar and restaurant recommendations. Please contact me for more info, with questions or for help customizing your tour.

Your Boston tour itinerary

Here's an idea of the sites and neighborhoods we'll drive around: The Freedom Trail sites of: - Boston Common - State House - Granary Burial Ground - Kings Chapel - Old South Meeting house - Old State house - Faneuil Hall - Old North Church (time to go in if you'd like) - Paul Revere house - USS Constitution - Bunker Hill (there's a 294 stair monument to climb if you're feeling energetic) Historic neighborhoods of: - North End (a cannoli stop is a must) - Charlestown - Beacon Hill (a charm offensive) - Back Bay - Copley Square Other places of interest: - Boston Harbor & Greenway - Seaport area - Fenway Park I pick up and drop off at any downtown hotel or accommodation, at the cruise terminal or will arrange to meet at a convenient place in the city. I typically start around 10am, but if a different time suits you better, message me and hopefully I can make it work. I drive a 4 passenger livery insured Lexus (no luggage).
