I have a lifelong interest in American history. Having grown up in Boston and attended Boston Latin School, Boston University, and Harvard Business School, I'm steeped in Boston history and local lore. I also have a strong interest in architecture and know the ins and outs of historic Boston buildings and homes. Over the years, I've led many visitors on specialty tours about this wonderful city and surrounding areas, and love nothing more than sharing this interest with people like you. - 15 years leading history and architectural heritage tours around Boston as a hobby - 4 years on annual house tour selection committee and house docent for Historic Newton - Lifelong Boston resident - Education: Boston Latin (oldest public school in the country), Boston University, Harvard Business School - Licensed tour guide for Town of Concord - Member, Mass. Historical Society Tour is best suited for adults. Since this is a walking tour in a historic area, keep in mind sidewalks/streets may be cobble-stoned and uneven. In some places, there may also be gradual or steep inclines.

Overview of your Boston tour

Starting with some of the key events that led to the liberation of Boston in 1776, our walking tour covers the sites that are key to understanding Revolutionary War Boston. You'll appreciate both the facts and the folklore. You'll learn what really happened in the Boston Massacre, how a stroke of good luck enabled the Boston Tea Party, why buildings like the Old State House and Old North Church have withstood 250+ years of Boston weather. On our way to the Paul Revere House, you'll even learn about the Boston Stone and its importance to colonial Boston. Weather permitting, we'll even get an overlook view from Copp's Hill Burying Ground to Bunker Hill Monument and Old Ironsides (USS Constitution). During our exploration, we'll also see some of the many statues/monuments/markers that are important to this time period. With my lifelong love of Boston history and folklore, you're in for a treat!

The Heart of the Revolutionary War walking tour with Mel was great! He was very knowledgeable, and easy to converse with. Although Boston is a city we are familiar with, we learned many things about Boston as well as the Revolutionary War, great experience!

Mel was absolutely wonderful! He was so considerate of my husband's limitations due to a stroke. He made sure we saw what we were hoping to see and made sure there were places to sit down. He is a wealth of knowledge and made the tour very entertaining and informative. Many thanks to Mel for a great addition to our trip.

Melvyn's tour was so enjoyable. He's a wealth of knowledge about the city, it's history and architecture. We got a great sense of the part Boston played in the War of Independence and the a good sense of the city itself. Would recommend going on a walk with him if history is your thing.
