Hello, my name is Gary, as a Dovorian I was born in Dover and have spent my entire life living in the villages around Dover never more than 4 miles from the iconic White Cliffs. As a young boy growing up in the countryside I have fond memories of playing on the beaches and pretty coves around Dover. Re-enacting battles with my mates in the moat at Dover Castle & exploring the miles of old military tunnels beneath the White Cliffs of Dover. I'm family man first, I'm blessed with a wonderful wife, 2 beautiful daughters, 3 precious grandchildren & 1 more on the way! I spent my early years working in the construction industry and have always had a complete love of buildings and their architecture and how people live and work in them. Dover has some of the finest medieval buildings in England and of course surrounded with pretty Kentish villages & seaside towns. Like many things in life, I didn't plan to become a tour guide. In truth after a back injury (I'm fine now) I needed to reinvent myself. I decided to become a driver, I got all the right qualifications & licenses, a vehicle and set up my own business taking people to the airports for their holidays. I remember bringing a wonderful couple from their Central London hotel to Dover Cruise Terminal for their cruise, we were a little early so they asked "could you show us around" I can honestly say that was the moment I realised just what I wanted to do! My Light Bulb Moment! Since then I've committed to become the best private tour guide I can be. I've developed excellent relationships with Leeds Castle, Dover Castle and Canterbury Cathedral and more. From 2022 I will be an accredited tour guide at Canterbury Cathedral so I will be able to personally guide you. As a local I can take you to the best places to get the most from your day. My vehicle is a luxury Mercedes-Benz V Class, with 7 leather seats, fully air-conditioned and I always have a plentiful supply of complementary cooled bottled water. I'm happy to collect you from your Dover hotel, Dover Priory Train Station or Dover Cruise terminal & I can return you to your cruise ship at the end of your tour, or if you're leaving your cruise and want a transfer to your Central London hotel with a private guided tour en-route that would be fine too. Many of my clients like to be collected from and returned to their hotel in London for a day tour out of London. Gary was very knowledgeable about each of the attractions we visited. He grew up in Dover and most of the attractions were his playground. He knows the best spots for pictures and shortcuts to reduce the walking. He is also a certified guide for Canterbury Cathedral. His tour there brings history alive. If 5 stars is the best, I would give Gary 100 stars. I have traveled to 40 countries and he is the best guide I have ever had. He presents his font of information in a way that makes history come alive. He is kind, caring, courteous, prompt, humorous and goes the extra mile. He adjusts itineraries to suit your interests. When I twisted my foot in a rabbit hole, he insisted on taking me to emergency care, buying pain killers, waiting for me and taking me home. Guides the world over should take lessons from Gary. We took two tours with him, the Cliffs of Dover and Leeds Castle. Thanks Gary for two wonderful days
We wanted to explore Leeds Castle, the countryside and Dover Cliffs. We are fortunate to book Gary for this tour. Gary is an exceptional guide: very knowledgeable, personable and engaging. The tour was informative and Gary was especially accommodating helping us navigate logistics, meeting point and train schedules. He exceeded all expectations! We always hire private guides when we travel abroad and Gary is definitely in the “Top 5”. We highly endorse him….you will not be disappointed.
We had the best day in Dover with Gary! He picked us up from our Viking cruise ship and did a first class private tour of the Cliffs of Dover, Leeds Castle and Canterbury. We drove thru some quaint villages and had lunch at wonderful pub. I would definitely book a tour with Gary again.
The key to a good tour is flexibility, local knowledge, small groups, and an “insider” viewpoint to cut corners and avoid the tourist crushes. Gary, our private guide, provided all of this and more. Key stops included Leeds Castle as well as Canterbury Cathedral where Gary made history come alive. Gary also took us to a typical local pub unencumbered with large groups of people. It was a wonderful day with Gary providing the details to complete the historical settings we visited. All I can say is this is the way touring was meant to be! Thanks Gary.
What a great day! Gary was great to help when I initially booked the wrong tour and he offered additional options to make our day a success. On the day of the tour, he was waiting for us as we got off the train, and whisked us away to a day of fun and information. He was very knowledgeable about all of the places that we went and the history that went with them. He was aware of our timing (which was a bit tight with theater tickets in London that evening) and timed the day, allowing us to do all the things, but without feeling rushed. (And, on the windy cliffs of Dover, he made sure to keep us all safe - and I don’t know if it was because he could feel my anxiety or not, but he helped us get great photos safely without making me feel like I had to be the super uncool ‘too-nervous’ mom) 🙂. The day couldn’t have gone better!
