I live on the beautiful Kent coast in the south east of England. I would be delighted to welcome you to my corner of the country and show you just how stunning the South East of England is with its gorgeous countryside, magnificent gardens, medieval towns and picturesque villages. I have always felt privileged to live in such a wonderful area that is so rich in places to visit. Since I qualified as a professional tour guide and was awarded the highly respected Blue Badge, it has given me the possibility to share my enthusiasm for the region with guests who come from all over the world. There are so many amazing sites in the counties of Kent and East Sussex that you could spend your whole vacation here. On our tour, we may find ourselves strolling along the narrow streets of a medieval town such as Rye, driving along idyllic country lanes or perhaps stopping off in a picture-postcard village such as Biddenden for a traditional cream tea or pub lunch. You will feel very safe and comfortable riding along in my very own 8-seater Mercedes_Benz V Class. This car with its excellent all-round visibility, panoramic glass roof and easy-access electric rear doors is considered to be one of the best in its class for touring. It also allows us the possibility to visit places that are inaccessible to tour buses and large groups. If you have any historical interests such as the Tudors, Charles Dickens, Winston Churchill or World War 2 history, I can also create a customised tour especially for you. If you are a keen gardener, perhaps you would like to visit one of our world-famous gardens such as Great Dixter or Sissinghurst. Wherever we go, my aim is for you to have the most enjoyable day possible while discovering something new about the history, the people and the daily life over here in England. I love sharing a good anecdote or two and will do my best to make sure your day is interesting, entertaining and memorable. On this tour we will explore the beautiful English countryside and will see the place where the event of 1066 changed the course of history in England and Europe as a whole. Walking through the cobbled lanes of Rye Royale and hearing lots of fascinating stories, I am sure, that you will be most certainly surprised with the concentration of living history packed into it. Diving even deeper into the history of England, we will visit Battle Abbey, which keeps fascinating me every time I visit it. The Abbey is the actual site of the pivotal Battle of Hastings, fought on 14 October 1066. The Abbey was built by order of William the Conqueror as penance for the bloodshed. We will drive through Hastings itself, which is now a popular seaside resort in the south of England, and will stop off to wander round quaint Winchelsea, which in medieval times was of great importance to the Crown. Winchelsea is the first purpose-built town in England, after Old Winchelsea was washed away during the Great Storm of 1287.
- From your chosen pick-up location, we will drive to Rye through a selection of picturesque towns and villages. - Upon arrival in Rye, we will stroll through the cobbled lanes, which have remained unchanged for centuries. Here I will tell you stories about invasions and smuggling, murders and royal visits. - After a short drive, we soon reach the thriving market town of Battle, with its Georgian buildings, interesting shops and cosy pubs. After lunch, we will visit the former Benedictine Abbey which was built on the site of the Battle of Hastings and see the exact spot where the last Saxon King was killed in 1066. -Before heading back, we will drive via Hastings, the famous seaside town that gave its name to one of the best-known battles of all time. We will also pause in Winchelsea, a hidden gem of a town that also retains its medieval appearance. - From Winchelsea, we will return to your drop-off point. Please note that this tour is completely customisable to your wishes.
