Hello and welcome to the South East of England and London, as a guide in this area I have two professional qualifications (known as the Blue Badge) awarded by the Institute of Tourist Guides. I’m based in the beautiful medieval city of Canterbury where I'm also a fully qualified Canterbury Cathedral guide and Canterbury City guide. I would be delighted to develop a private, bespoke tour just for you and your party which can be geared to your particular interests. It could also include an exploration of the surrounding country areas and, perhaps taking in local heritage sites such as the White Cliffs of Dover, its stunning castles, such as Leeds, Dover or Walmer Castles or to beautiful gardens including Sissinghurst or Great Dixter. As a London guide I enjoy bringing to life the stories of this fascinating city. It is a huge treasure trove waiting for you to explore. It could be the fabulous wealth of royal London history, its major sites, art and architecture or some of its quirky streets. Included in my tours are the characters associated with its past:, famous, infamous as well as the everyday folk who have contributed to its multi-layered history. Since I have lived in the South East of England for much of my life, I know its nooks and crannies well; the villages, country roads, good places to stop off for refreshments such as country inns or tea rooms. This area can be enjoyed in so many different ways, walking tours, taxi tours. I can meet you at a train station, Dover Cruise Terminal, your hotel. The choice and the opportunities to enjoy it are many and varied. Combining the best of the South East with our great metropolis of London, I am qualified to guide you around the major sites, such as Westminster Abbey, the Tower of London and the National Gallery. I am fascinated with our capital's history, both in its buildings as well as the many characters from all walks of life who have contributed to its development. Rather like its great river, Old Father Thames, London never stops moving and evolving making it always an exciting place to visit. Blue Badge Guide - South East England Blue Badge Guide - London Green Badge Guide - Canterbury Canterbury Cathedral Guide Member - Institute of Tourist Guides, Guild of Guides, South East England Tourist Guides Association (and previous Chairperson). B.A. (Hons.) English Literature, B.A. (Hons) Fine Art. Post Graduate Certificate in Education. I am not a driver guide but I can arrange transportation upon request.

Rye, or "Rye Royale" as it's sometimes known, lies in the county of East Sussex and is a quirky little place set upon a small hill. It was my childhood home, spending these years discovering its tucked away corners, nooks and crannies. We'll start out across the atmospheric Romney Marsh, famed for its smuggling past when gangs ruled the roost (letting you into a little secret, I'm descended from one of these gangs!) Arriving in Rye, we'll start our walking tour around its cobbled streets, as I reveal its stories and treasures to you. On our way, we'll look out to sea from the "gungardens" where the feisty local seamen battled against the might of the Spanish Armada back in 1588. We'll pop in to St Mary's church, attacked and burnt down by the French in 1377 and we'll see Mermaid Street, with its famous and reputedly haunted inn. Today, you'll find tempting galleries, cosy cafes, pubs and interesting shops all charmingly huddled together.
Meet at Dover Cruise Terminal . • We'll head out along the coast and across the Romney Marsh, dotted with remote churches and villages. • Rye appears on the horizon, looking a bit like a wedding cake, on different tiers. We'll leave the car, and on foot gradually work our way up the cobbled streets listening to stories on the way. • The Gun Gardens and the Ypres Tower. Find out about the Cinque Ports. In 1573 the title "Rye Royale" was bestowed upon the town by Queen Elizabeth I for defending the realm. • We'll hear about the many artists and writers who have lived here, notably Henry James. • We'll visit Mermaid Street Rye's most famous street with its eclectic mix of houses with quirky names such as "The House Opposite". • Opportunities for photos throughout. . Perhaps take a short break at a local cafe or inn. • This tour as a whole or partially, can be customised to fit your preferences, please enquire.
Tell your guide which places matter to you, skip what doesn't, and tailor the experience for your group's needs. Not finding what you want? Message your guide to build something unique.
We'll travel by car and private chauffeur to Rye, then we'll discover Rye by foot before heading back to Dover.
