Hello, my name is Gary, as a Dovorian I was born in Dover and have spent my entire life living in the villages around Dover never more than 4 miles from the iconic White Cliffs. As a young boy growing up in the countryside I have fond memories of playing on the beaches and pretty coves around Dover. Re-enacting battles with my mates in the moat at Dover Castle & exploring the miles of old military tunnels beneath the White Cliffs of Dover. I'm family man first, I'm blessed with a wonderful wife, 2 beautiful daughters, 3 precious grandchildren & 1 more on the way! I spent my early years working in the construction industry and have always had a complete love of buildings and their architecture and how people live and work in them. Dover has some of the finest medieval buildings in England and of course surrounded with pretty Kentish villages & seaside towns. Like many things in life, I didn't plan to become a tour guide. In truth after a back injury (I'm fine now) I needed to reinvent myself. I decided to become a driver, I got all the right qualifications & licenses, a vehicle and set up my own business taking people to the airports for their holidays. I remember bringing a wonderful couple from their Central London hotel to Dover Cruise Terminal for their cruise, we were a little early so they asked "could you show us around" I can honestly say that was the moment I realised just what I wanted to do! My Light Bulb Moment! Since then I've committed to become the best private tour guide I can be. I've developed excellent relationships with Leeds Castle, Dover Castle and Canterbury Cathedral and more. From 2022 I will be an accredited tour guide at Canterbury Cathedral so I will be able to personally guide you. As a local I can take you to the best places to get the most from your day. My vehicle is a luxury Mercedes-Benz V Class, with 7 leather seats, fully air-conditioned and I always have a plentiful supply of complementary cooled bottled water. I'm happy to collect you from your Dover hotel, Dover Priory Train Station or Dover Cruise terminal & I can return you to your cruise ship at the end of your tour, or if you're leaving your cruise and want a transfer to your Central London hotel with a private guided tour en-route that would be fine too. Many of my clients like to be collected from and returned to their hotel in London for a day tour out of London. All my tours are private, the itinerary can be customised to suit you. please feel free to reach out to me with any special requests. Our journey starts with the City of Canterbury, one of the oldest and most famous Christian Structures in England, Canterbury Cathedral - I fell in love with this building as soon as I visited it, together we will see the ancient architecture and uncover the secrets of the cloisters and stained glass windows which tell their own story of times gone by. We will visit the White Cliffs of Dover, I have never lived further than four miles away from the Cliffs and they are a symbol of my Heritage and my childhood where I often played. I now fully appreciate the breathtaking views across the English Channel and can share this wonderful experience with my clients! I will take you to the amazing Medieval Dover Castle which has stood through two World Wars and has a mystique of its own as it recreates the history of the Kings and Queens of the past. My goal for the day is to make you feel welcome in my country and my part of the world and make sure you have the best memorable day possible!
Gary grew up in Dover and has extensive knowledge of the history of this area and sites while also sharing personal stories around those which made this tour extraordinary. He is very personable and entertaining and took us to spots other guides don’t include in their tours. He has also developed deep personal relationships with the staff at the sites we visited further enhancing the overall tour experience.
Gary was a great guide and provided us with a wonderful day! He shared his favorite spots on the Cliff Walk in Dover early in the day before crowds. Very insightful tour of Canterbury Cathedral. Lunch was at a wonderful pub where the food was amazing. Great stories as we walked through the Dover Castle and Tower. He took us through Medevil tunnels and talked of the security measures if the time. He gave us choices during the day and got us back to our ship on time! Great day with an engaging guide!

Gary was a kind, courteous, respectful and extremely knowledgeable tour guide. We will definitely tour with Gary again as I don’t think we tapped into half of what he knows of the area (Dover Cliffs, Dover Castle, Canterbury Cathedral). We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
We viewed the cliffs from below at St. Margaret’s village and then saw them again from above. This was an incredible nature experience. Gary paced the walk to the cliffs to meet our physical needs Next we moved to Canterbury Cathedral where Gary’s knowledge base was exceptional. We asked to have lunch at a local pub and then moved onto the castle. Once again, Gary had an incredible amount of information to share and always kept it interesting. Gary was an exceptional guide, we learned so much on this tour. His knowledge base of history, and tradition was incredible. Add in his childhood mischief and personal experiences and the stories became larger than life. Overall this was a wonderful day.
This was one of the best tours I have ever taken. EVER. Gary was by far my favorite guide ever. The sites were amazing and with Gary’s knowledge, stories, personality and humor my time in Dover will forever be remembered. The White Cliffs of Dover are breathtaking. Canterbury Cathedral was magnificent. I had expected Dover Castle to be like every other castle I have visited on various tours, but Gary’s stories and his ability to bring it to life for us meant that this wasn’t just another hi-hum castle visit. Any tour guide can show you the sites. But Gary has the ability to bring them to life and to intersperse facts, stories and experiences that make a day with him far more than just a day touring the sites. Take this tour. Collected in a luxury Mercedes-Benz by your Guide from Dover at 08:30 to start your Tour. From Dover we will drive to the City of Canterbury & walk through the old streets to the Cathedral. Canterbury Cathedral with its amazing architecture has over 1, 500 years of history and is breathtaking. I will personally take you on a private guided Tour and tell you the wonderful stories. Then to the White Cliffs of Dover. There is a 5-10 minute walk to the cliffs to get the best views where we can take a walk along the path on top of the Cliffs taking in the magnificent views, with plenty of photo opportunities. From the White Cliffs we will drive through some Kentish Countryside and, if you'd like, stop for lunch in a Kentish Village Pub. Then onto Dover Castle, this mighty fortification steeped in English history stands on the eastern heights of the White Cliffs. We will tour the Great Tower, the Medieval Tunnels. If time finish the day with a visit to a couple of seaside villages.
