Step into the heart of medieval Stockholm on a walking tour through Gamla Stan and Riddarholmen, where Sweden’s royal, religious, and political history comes alive. Stroll along cobblestone streets, colorful squares, and scenic waterfronts while discovering stories of kings, Vikings, merchants, and monks. Gamla Stan is one of Europe’s best-preserved medieval city centers, while Riddarholmen, the “Island of the Nobles,” is home to royal tombs and historic palaces. Blending iconic landmarks, hidden gems, history, architecture, and local life, this tour offers an authentic and memorable introduction to Stockholm.
THIS TOUR IS IDEAL FOR CRUISE SHIP GUESTS AND TRAVELERS WHO WANT TO MAKE THE MOST OF THEIR LIMITED TIME. We begin at Stortorget, the medieval heart of Stockholm, where colorful facades hide dramatic stories. We pass the Nobel Prize Museum and discover how Alfred Nobel’s legacy still shapes the world today. We continue to Storkyrkan Cathedral, Stockholm’s oldest church, witness to royal weddings and coronations, before reaching the majestic Royal Palace, one of the world’s largest working palaces and the center of Swedish royal life. Our walk takes us through charming hidden alleys, including Mårten Trotzigs Gränd, the narrowest street in the city, rich in medieval atmosphere. We then cross to Riddarholmen and explore the exterior of Riddarholmen Church, the burial place of Swedish kings since the 13th century. We pass Wrangel Palace, Birger Jarl’s Tower, and historic government buildings, ending by the waterfront with beautiful views of City Hall and Lake Mälaren, a perfect finale to Stockholm’s story.
