Uppsala is one of Sweden's largest and oldest cities, and until the 13th century, it was called Östra Aros. Today, it's world-renowned for its university, magnificent cathedral and the legacy of emeritus scholar Carl Linnaeus. 5 km north of today's Uppsala, was the old Uppsala. 1, 500 years ago, it was a place of trade and of worship where we sailed around by boat. It was also an important center for trade and meetings. Even today, we see remains of the place where the assembly met and created laws, as well as some burial mounds from the 6th century where kings were buried. Sweden only became Christian in the 12th century, and in 1164 Uppsala became the country's religious center. The church was destroyed in a fire and a rise in land made it impossible to continue sailing here. The Archbishop's office moved 5 km south to Östra Aros and in 1286 we founded the new Uppsala. A new cathedral was built and consecrated in 1435. Uppsala has many green parks and nice cafes to discover too. Customizable itinerary:
