Rich in the expertise of winemaking in Alsace, Champagne, Bordeaux and South Africa I am able to adapt my explanations for anyone to be able to understand wine in general and more specifically, South African wines. Note that the tour is made for any level of wine enthusiast, from beginners through to the wine connoisseur and explanations are adjusted according to the specific level of wine knowledge that the guests may hold. I am a very friendly and charming guide with the subtle French flair that I am accustomed too and will give you tricks on every day wine buying, enjoying and pairing. Though I have left winemaking for now, I still go to the Champagne region (where my knowledge of wine officially started) to assist with harvesting and vinification yearly. I look forward to taking you on this unique journey and experience with me. . . 2000-2002 Undergraduate level (BTS) in Wine-growing and oenology, Avize (Champagne) 1998 - 2000 Undergraduate level (BTS) with a major in commercialization techniques for drinks, wine and spirits, Rouffach (Alsace) 1998 Baccalaureate degree (equivalent A-level) in Sciences at " lycee poncelet", moselle, France None

Great tour! Matthieu was an amazing guide. We learned a lot about SA wines and wine in general. Highly recommend!
We had such a fun day with Mathieu! He was very knowledgeable about wines and gave us new ways to taste and appreciate the wine. The wineries he took us to were beautiful and seemed to be a good selection of South Africa wineries. The lunch was delicious. We learned a lot and truly enjoyed our day, highly recommend.
Fantastic tour. A great way to spend the day and really learn about wine and wine making in South Africa. Mathieu is a wonderful guide. Besides being extremely knowledgeable about the subject, you can tell right away that he has a passion for wine and wine making, he is very personable and you will feel at ease in a very short time. He will take you on a wonderful and mind opening exploration on how to taste wine, how to talk about it and how to remember what you are tasting. His connections back to France can only further expand your discussions if you have visited some of the wine making areas in France. Not only will you come away with a much deeper and better understanding of South African wine and winemaking, You will think and talk about wine differently after spending the day with him. Can not say enough positive things about him.
Four of us from U.S. spent a day with Matt learning about wine tasting in general and putting this knowledge to work at 3 different and distinct wineries. Matt was an excellent teacher who balanced a certain level of seriousness about the wine while always remembering to have fun. The tour included a very nice lunch and lots of different wines for tasting. Matt was also knowledgeable of history and the region in general. We highly recommend him for a wine tour you won't forget!
By the end of my tour with day Mathieu, I decided that I'd not drink wine again, without remembering everything Mathieu taught me about how to think about what I was drinking - how to experience good wine one sip at a time. Mathieu made the day a memorable experience - each of the four vineyards were distinctive in a positive way - the lunch restaurant was amazing - plus he found an olive oil farm to match my interest in local oils. Wouldn't hesitate to highly recommend Mathieu.
- Pick-up at 9:00am, at your preferred location. - Head to heart of the South African wine industry, with both amazing scenery, as well as a long proud history in the art of wine-making. Our first stop at Glen Carlou, where consistency, expertise and a commitment to always deliver beyond expectation is what this estate strives for. Established in 1985, Glen Carlou is a relatively young estate which has built an enviable reputation as one of South Africa's leading producers. Enjoy a wine tasting and walk amongst the vines, followed by a gastronomic lunch. - We then drive to Avondale where we explore some organic and bio-dynamic wines, followed by a MCC's tasting Le Lude or should the guest have a specific winery request, we can also accommodate this. - Return to your accommodation around 18:00/18:30pm
