Hello My name is Aziz, sometimes called Aziz Number One ! come from an old well established Tangier Berber family with a long tradition of hospitality and welcoming. I learned as a child to always make the visitor feel welcome in my home and in my country. I studied languages at the University of Fes, which is the oldest university in the world, located in one of Morocco's most beautiful cities. By then I had already travelled all over Europe and was familiar with the European scene. After college I decided to dedicate myself to a career as a guide and tour operator, opening the many doors of Moroccan life to the visitors who come here seeking peace and entertainment. My clients over the years have included the likes of Irish rock group U2, film director Baz Luhrmann, and actor Richard Harris, perhaps best known for playing Dumbledore in the Harry Potter movies. I am especially proud of the tour around my own town , Tangier, and its environs, which I have undertaken with family groups, individuals, and tour groups. This might involve suggesting the ideal restaurant or visiting the magnificent Cap Spartel where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean Sea, I will always show visitors the historic old town and the walled delights of the Casbah - one of the most romantic places in all of Morocco. I especially enjoy doing a tour which concentrates on the Tangier of the painters Delacroix and Henri Matisse. Both painters spent a lot of time here. The locations they painted, and the places where they painted, are still here to be seen. Because of its magical light, Tangier is very much a painter's city and I am a painter myself in my spare time. Tangier is associated with the Beat Generation (Paul Bowles, Jack Kerouac, William Burroughs) and several locales associated with them, such as The Tanger Inn, are still in business. The Tanger Inn is an old gay-friendly club, and this is why the Beats felt comfortable there. Alternatively, I am happy to provide a personalized tour of Morocco, tailor made to suit your individual interests. Visits to Fes, Casablanca, Rabat, and Marrakesh are always hugely rewarding, and allow me an opportunity to indulge my passion for architecture, history, and art. I enjoy an extremely good working relationship with the world famous Minzah Hotel and with all the other leading hotels in Tangier. Whether you want a quiet day in the countryside, a night on the town , a snack in some obscure hole in the wall eatery or a lavish feast in one of the legendary traditional Moroccan restaurants, it will be my pleasure to be your friend and guide. Asilah is a small fortified town in the northwestern part of the kingdom of Morocco. The history of this city began approximately in the 15th century B. C. It was the time when Asilah served as a base for trade for the Phoenicians. The city was conquered by the Portuguese in 1471. At the end of the 17th century the Asilah was conquered by the Moroccans. For the next two centuries Asilah served as a base for pirates, and beginning from the 20th century and till 1956 it used to be the part of Spanish Morocco. Nowadays it has become a famous seaside resort. Asilah is the place where numerous musical and art festivals are held.
-Medina: Asilah's medina is clean, well kept and wonderful to stroll around. You enter via one of the two main gates - Bab el-Kasaba and the Bab el-Homar. -Church of Saint Bartholome : Just outside the medina, on Ave de la Liberte lies Church of St Bartholome, a reminder of the Iberian influence, and is still in use by local christians. One of the few churches in Morocco that still ring their bells every sunday. -The Ramparts - the best place to watch the sunset is by taking a stroll along the ramparts in Asilah. It's also where you can take the photo of town you see above. The ramparts were built by the Portuguese more than 500 years ago but have been restored many times since then. -Wall Paintings - Asilah has attracted artists for many years and they have left their colorful mark on walls in and around the medina. These wall paintings are sometimes commissioned and always celebrated every July/August during the annual Asilah Cultural Festival
