Hello! I’m Meiko, a nationally licensed tour guide based in Kagoshima. I was born and raised here, surrounded by beautiful nature and warm, welcoming people. After living in Tokyo and spending 12 years working as a guide in Kyoto, I’m now back in my hometown and really happy to share it with you. I also lived in the United States while raising my newborn baby, and during that time I was helped by many kind local people. That experience stayed with me, and now I try to guide my guests the same way, like welcoming friends from abroad. When we walk together, I like to share the stories behind what you see, so places feel more meaningful, not just something to look at. I also enjoy talking about what I learned from my family, my great-grandparents, grandparents, and parents—who lived through Kagoshima’s history. Kagoshima has so much to offer, from its powerful volcanic landscape to its samurai past and everyday local life. I hope you can feel not only the sights, but also the spirit of this place. I’m really looking forward to meeting you and exploring Kagoshima together! Escape the city and discover the peaceful countryside of southern Kagoshima on this full-day guided tour to Chiran, traveling by local bus. Our first stop is the Chiran Samurai District, one of Japan’s best-preserved samurai towns. As we stroll through quiet streets lined with stone walls, traditional residences, and beautiful gardens, you’ll learn about the lives, values, and culture of the samurai. After lunch at a local restaurant, we’ll continue to the Chiran Peace Museum for Tokko (Special Attack Units). Through personal letters, photographs, and treasured belongings, you’ll discover the human stories of the young pilots who departed from Chiran during the final months of World War II. Throughout the tour, I'll share historical background, cultural insights, and local stories to help you gain a deeper understanding of Chiran and its significance in Japanese history. This tour is ideal for travelers interested in Japanese history and samurai culture.
