Hello! I'm Mikiko! You can call me Miki! I was born and bred in Kagoshima. Now l'm living with my husband, two sons, and one dog. I have worked as an interpreter and a port agent for cruise ships for about 7 years. Fortunately I had opportunities to work in from very formal international conferences to music and sports events as an interpreter. As a port agent, I often take crew members and passengers to hospitals for medical emergency, so I've learned basic medical English and got a certificate. Still I'm learning such terms for the next level. For local companies, I join business meetings as an interpreter and translate documents for them. In addition, I have worked as a lecturer at an English academy for about five years. As a licensed international guide, I've guided FIT and big group for tours about 8 years now. I took them various sightseeing spots in Kagoshima. Sometimes for people who want to experience something very local or Japan, I offered such opportunities using various channels I have. First, you go to Ibusuki city, 1 hour drive to south of Kagoshima city, to enjoy Natural Sand Bath. You are literally buried in a sand to enjoy natural steam bath. It must be an unforgettable memory for you. Then, you have a lunch of Somen-Nagashi floating noodle, which is very local way to enjoy fine noodle and you can experience only in Kagoshima. Next destination is Kamafuta Shrine. The Shrine is standing at seashore and people try their luck in a very unique way there. The last place to visit is Distillery of genuine Japanese Whisky. You can have a tour in the factory and at the end of the tour, we go to a Japanese traditional house with long history and try the taste its whisky(there are additional costs for tasting). Then back to Kagoshima city.
Our group of 6 had a wonderful day in Ibusuki with Mikiko and her driver Kuba-san. They were very patient with our group and made sure we were comfortable. Mikiko had many amusing stories about the area. Kuba-san is a very safe driver so we were relaxed during the entire trip. Mikiko, we thoughly enjoyed this adventure. Cultural Hot Springs Sand Bath, and guided bus tour was about 1.5 hr from cruise terminal. Mikiko told us the history of area and pointed out important green tea farms and how the leaves are processed. An authentic noodle restaurant for lunch was really good. Walking through the old Samarai village and gardens, very different from other gardens. You do need to use your imagination to fill in the full picture. Koi fish swimming in the water channel along the street.
One of the best guides ever. Willing to sit while I ate my way thru town after sightseeing all day.
