Natural steam sandbaths are something you would want to try at least once in your life. Your body is covered with sand heated by hot springs that naturally well up from the earth. Tosenkyo rotating flowing noodles which swirl around in front of your eyes is a unique dining experience. Or you can enjoy handmade soba noodles in Chiran Chiran Peace Museum preserves and displays materials left by the deceased Army pilots of the unprecedented ramming attack known as Kamikaze during the final moments of WWⅡ. The charm of the Chiran Samurai Residence Complex lies in the 700m stonewall-lined paths, the scattered Samurai houses and the beautifully landscaped gardens within. This is where the breath of history is still felt after more than 270 years.
we had an amazing day per our tour! we had originally planned to go to the hot sand baths, but last minute we decided to detour and do something different. We wound up getting to see this seahorse Museum of sorts. It was so cool. They had hundreds of different seahorses and we got to see three day old babies super cool experience.!! best of all was our lunch we went to this rotating noodle restaurant that was out of this world!!
We were pleased to have two different tours with Hitomi, who is smart and charming and very knowledgeable. Her English is excellent. On this, the first tour, we enjoyed relaxing in the natural steam black sand baths and the onsen at the spa, followed by a great ramen lunch. Then we traveled to the Chiran Peace Museum, which has photos and memorabilia and letters by young kamikaze pilots, and saw the winding streets and gardens in the Chiran samurai district. This was a highlight of our trip.
We had a wonderful day with Hitomi! She shared her knowledge of the region as we drove the beautiful region outside of Kagoshima. And the natural sand baths were among the best, most unique experiences we have ever had while traveling! Then Hitomi took us a delicious local ramen spot before going to see the calm, quiet and beautiful Samarai residences and gardens where we learned more about their history and culture. I would highly recommend Hitomi to everyone visiting the Kagoshima and surrounding region!
