I've been visiting this area since I was a teenager: my family and I would spend our weekends in the Pellice valley, so I've known the area, the history and the people for a long time. The Waldensian Trail of Faith is a tour tracing the religious heritage of the Waldensian people who were fierecly persecuted by the local rulers since the 1600s up to the late 1800s. after adehring to the Reformation: this is the reason why this community fled Torino to freedom, all the way up to the mountains. We will peer into the cave where the Waldensians worshipped in secret, hike to the ancient 'seminary' where they translated the first full Bible into French and we will visit the school where boys and girls were educated. Please take note that to visit all the Waldesian sites on my tour, it is necessary to be able to do a little, light/medium hicking. No special mountain shoes are required, just a pair of good quality trainers or light boots.
This duration of the tour includes transportation from Torino to the Waldensien valley. - An estimate one and a half drive from Torino to the town of Angrogna where we take the road to a cluster of original Waldensien sites: the boarding school for young, future preachers, their kitchens and forestry; the women's museum, the Beckwith school, the 1800s temple and the original rock temple where you better not suffer from claustrophobia! - After wandering about paths and sites, we will hop on back into driver's vehicle and drive to the Waldensien "vatican", Torre Pellice where we will walk through the main, presently-used Waldensien places: museum (no admission), the temple, the Home where the yearly Synod takes place. - Drive back to Torino.
