Overview of your Palermo tour:

Being one of my favorites, since my Phd, I always loved to combine medieval history with cultural and religious aspects. This tour will give you a perfect overview of Norman architecture in and around Palermo and the special position held by the norman St. Rosalia, whose memory will be crucial in 2024. That is why we will start with a short visit at Palermo patroness, St. Rosalia driving to the cave, where she died & to her statue, which overlooks the Sicilian coast on top of Mount Pellegrino, a unique panoramic experience. Our driver will then bring us to the cathedral & cloister of Monreale. I will familiarize you with the first highlight of arab norman architecture. After a lunch break in cosy Monreale, we will round up by driving back to Palermo. I will show you other highlights, such as the Palatine palace chapel & nearby St. Johns Hermit church, forerunners of Monreale, whereas the cathedral in Palermo was a symbol of competition. Our tour ends with the meaningful churches, Martorana & St. Cataldo.
