Obscured by the fame of Pompeii, whose sad fate has in common with, the ancient Roman city of Herculaneum is undergoing a revival of interest among both locals and foreign visitors. Not many, however, know its hidden secrets and the differences with its illustrious neighbour. Did you know, for example, Herculaneum was the first Vesuvian town to be excavated, and it was much more famous than Pompeii for several decades? Fascinating for the richness of its decorations and the luxurious life of its inhabitants, Herculaneum offers the possibility of a full tour of the city in a limited amount of time given its compact size. Its streets and houses present the visitor a "frozen" image of what was the city looking like before the apocalyptic eruption of the year 79 AD. Carbonized wood around town, the skeletons found on its shore in the 1980s make, the magnificent jewels in gold and the boat pavilion make it an experience not to be missed even for those who have already seen Pompeii!
Your Naples tour itinerary
- The tour starts in Napoli, where me and our private driver will pick you up at the cruise terminal. - We will move with a comfortable car/minivan to the archaeological park of Herculaneum, where I will show you the highlights in the ruins and the main objects in the exhibits, recounting the most salient historical facts and stories. You will have the chance of satisfying your curiosity about the ancient history and life of Romans in the area. - We will then drive you back to Napoli in time for lunch, else I can customize the tour to visit the amazing Mt.
