As much of Berlin had been destroyed during WWII and lots of it subsequently torn down by the GDR officials once the city was divided, one would have imagined that following reunification, Berlin was the perfect playground for the world's best architects to create their best buildings! And yet, some say, they created their worst. However, there are some real architectural gems in this city: Admire, for instance, Rem Kohlhaas' Dutch Embassy or his Axel Spring HQ. There's also a string of awe-inspiring townhouses or the extravagant Otto Bock Building. Giving you an idea of what Art Nouveau looked like in Germany is equally part of the tour as some prime examples of GDR architecture. This exciting tour will take you across Berlin, to show you the best and the most controversial buildings Berlin has to offer! Even if architecture shouldn't be your main interest, this tour may be for you, as it takes you across town to show you all the facets of Berlin! This tour can also be customized, should you want me to.
Starting our tour at Potsdamer Platz, at the building formerly known as the Sony Center (stop 1), we start with a string of building built by Richard Rodgers, Renzo Piano, and Helmut Jahn. Stop 2: Otto Bock Building, also known as the "muscle house". You'll find out why! Stop 3: Hausvogteiplatz - Townhouses/ Mitte - several architects have contributed to the create this string of exclusive townhouses, set in the centre of Berlin Stop 4: Spittelmarkt - Axel Springer HQ and the Erich Mendelssohn Building - yes, 2 of 20th century's great building masters standing next to one another in what used to be the Newspaper District! Stop 5: Klosterstrasse - the erstwhile HQ of the Tietz Departmentstore chain. An Art Nouveau gem! Stop 6: Alexanderplatz - lastly, get a sense of what GDR architetcure looked like, as this square, once the heart of East-Berlin, is full of buildings built in the 1960s! Here is where our tour ends! I can easily customize this tour for you, according to your preferences. Just contact me!

As this tour takes us across Berlin's Mitte (which is vast), it will involve walking, but also a great deal of getting in and out of public transport (subway, buses). Berlin's subway system is good, though not air-conditioned, which means on a scorching hot summer' day, it can be challenging. By request, a car plus driver can be hired (at additional cost).
Potsdamer Platz, Berlin, Berlin, 10785 Germany
