Welcome to Berlin! I'm Marriette and I'd love to show you what Berlin has to offer! Ask any non-German how they ended up in Berlin and you’ll often hear the same story: “I came on holiday and never left.” And that’s exactly how it happened for me. I arrived fresh from Manchester University with a BA in Sociology, ready to escape the drizzle of the motherland and dive into something new. What started as a brief fling with Berlin turned into a full-blown love affair, and 19 years later, I’m still here. I’ve mastered the language, gained German citizenship, and built a life I never saw coming. I’ve been a full-time tour guide since 2006, and I still wake up excited to head to work, surely a sign I’m in the right job. Berlin is unlike any other city: layered with history, bursting with contradictions, raw and resilient, constantly reinventing itself. It’s not always pretty, but it’s always real. And it never, ever gets boring. Over the years, I’ve guided every type of tour you can imagine: private one-on-ones, lively school and university groups, romantic strolls with couples, full-blown 40-person bus tours, you name it. On foot, by bike, segway, chauffeur-driven car or coach, I adapt to whatever suits your style. Whether you want to tick off the must-see sights or uncover Berlin’s hidden nooks and off-the-radar gems, I’ll tailor the experience to your interests. This was a fabulous tour! Marriette was charming, extremely knowledgeable, and shared so much of the side of Berlin most visitors never see. We explored multiple neighborhoods with amazing street art and backstories, and local foods. Highly recommended this tour; ask for her!
Marriette is an AMAZING guide. She is extremely knowledgeable about both the history & the current events of Berlin. She is most pleasant, amiable and flexible. She adjusted our agenda based on my prior experience and together we explored numerous important and fun neighborhoods. We had an amazing private walking tour with Marriette. She showed us the historical sights combined with some hidden gems of her own, all woven through with incredible anecdotal stories bringing it all to life. We wouldn't have had the same experience in a group tour our trying to see everything on our own. She even left us with enough information to carry on ourselves the next day as she wasn't available. We had a great tour exploring new parts of the Berlin culture and history. We saw gems like Otto’s Museum, beautiful courtyards we would have just walked past, etc. Highly recommend.

Without giving too much away. . . - We will start with a wander through Berlin's Jewish Quarter. - Clärchens Ballhaus - A turn of the century dance hall with the most exceptional history; my absolute most beloved building in Berlin. - RÄW Gelande - An old train repair station founded in 1867 that is now a Street-Art covered collection of all things creative; a beer garden with a rock climbing tower, an open-air swimming pool, a flea-market, bars/restaurants, and clubs. - Markthalle Neun - A market hall built in the late 1800s, surviving both the Second World War as well as imminent commercialisation, to become the epicentre of Berlin's Foodie Scene.
