Orsay museum was a railway station in 1900 offering to travelers to enter the nearby World Fair 1900. Used at the end of the WWII to bring back prisoners and war workers from Germany as well as refugees. Closed, then reopened as a museum in 1986 to relieve the Louvre of its heavy collections, it shows the evolution of art between the 1850's until WWI. The Impressionist revolution, expressionism, the Paris of the Belle Epoque, Arts & Crafts, Toulouse Lautrec, Degas, A travel in time with Monet, Renoir, Cézanne, Rodin, Van Gogh, etc. Probably one of my favorite museum. The Freedom of arts explained by an Art Lover and official Guide-Lecturer ! Not available on Mondays and Sundays.
Orsay is located on the other side of the Seine river facing the Louvre. In this earlier railway station built in 1900 for the Paris World Fair, discover during a 2 to 2, 5 hours tour the most beautiful paintings of the pre-impressionist movement in the mid 19th C. Delacroix, Ingres, Millet, Courbet, then the world famous impressionist movement led by Renoir, Degas, Monet, Manet, Cézanne etc. and some of the most renowned post-impressionist painters as Van Gogh, Gauguin etc. See the Academic sculptures of Carpeaux and the Expressionism of Auguste Rodin. Orsay is the largest collection of art from the middle of the 19th Century to the end of the Belle Epoque preceding the WWI. This is a suggested itinerary, let me know what you would like to see and do, and I will customize the tour accordingly!
