I'm Ariel, born and raised in the Jewish quarter of Buenos Aires, widely known as "Once", I became an enthusiast of both Jewish history and culture. My grandparents survived the Holocaust and arrived to Argentina in 1948. Thus I decided to embrace my own history and I am writing my PhD thesis about the immigration of the Holocaust survivors to Argentina. I collaborate as a research assistant with the University of North Carolina at the Chappell Hill in a project related to the history of Cuban Jews before the communist revolution. I also teach Holocaust History at the Conservative Rabbinical Seminary in Latin America. As a historian whose area of interest and expertise is the history of Argentinian Jewry, I served as a consultant for the local Jewish Museums - the Holocaust Museum and the Jewish Museum of Buenos Aires. I am the former coordinator of the archive at the Jewish Museum, member of the Jewish Studies Organization in Argentina (Núcleo de Estudios Judíos) and of the Latin American Jewish Studies Association. Licensed Tour Guide of the City of Buenos Aires Working Historian I'm a tour guide, not a driver, so four my tours I would hire a professional driver to get us around.

Overview of your Buenos Aires tour

We will start the tour at La Boca (old docks area), known by its colorful houses. That's a perfect place to enjoy the view but also to start talking about the history of Buenos Aires, because La Boca is one of the few neighbors that still preserves some of its originals houses to this day. Here is where Tango was born (says popular wisdom) and where the famous Stadium of Boca Juniors (one of the most popular footbal teams) is located. Besides this, will visit several attractions, among them the most beautiful library in the world (according to National Geographic), originally inaugurated as a movie theater by the Jewish immigrant Max Glücksmann. Of course, we will speak about Perón, politics, and visit Evita's tomb at the Recoleta Cemetery as well as Firpo's tomb, the first boxer fighting for the World Heavyweight Championship. Along the tour, we'll be using a vehicle but there will also be time for walking. In case you have special requirements, please let me know. The itinerary is fully customizable.

We had a very good tour with Ariel before our departure on a cruise. He was easy to communicate with and happy to customize our tour. He met us at our hotel with a driver which made walking around some of the major sites very easy. He knows about the history of the City and the present day living there. He was able to answer all our questions. He skipped some places we were not interested in visiting and dropped us off at the cruise terminal with our luggage. He is one of the best tour guides we have hired and I can recommend him to anyone visiting Buenos Aires.

Your Buenos Aires tour itinerary

We'll start the tour at La Boca. From there, we'll cover: -Caminito- La Boca (Colorful houses): We will walk around this picturesque area -known as the the birthplace of tango- full of colors and markets. -Boca Junior's stadium (from the outside). -Plaza de Mayo: The main park of Buenos Aires, surrounded by the Pink House, The National Bank, The Metropolitan Cathedral, among other important buildings. -Metropolitan Cathedral: we'll enter to the main cathedral of Buenos Aires where Pope Francis served as Archbishop (1998-2013). In here there's the mausoleum of the national hero José de San Martín, guarded by grenadiers. -Pink House / Palace of Government (from the outside). -Recoleta Cemetery: A great place to learn about Argentine history. It's where Evita's tomb is located as well as the mausoleums of several argentinian Presidents. -Alvear Avenue: The street of the French palaces. -Plaza Lavalle: Colon Theatre & Palace of Justice (on the outside). We'l finish the tour at the Library "ND Ateneo".
