I'm Ariel, born and raised in the Jewish quarter of Buenos Aires, widely known as "Once", I became an enthusiast of both Jewish history and culture. My grandparents survived the Holocaust and arrived to Argentina in 1948. Thus I decided to embrace my own history and I am writing my PhD thesis about the immigration of the Holocaust survivors to Argentina. I collaborate as a research assistant with the University of North Carolina at the Chappell Hill in a project related to the history of Cuban Jews before the communist revolution. I also teach Holocaust History at the Conservative Rabbinical Seminary in Latin America. As a historian whose area of interest and expertise is the history of Argentinian Jewry, I served as a consultant for the local Jewish Museums - the Holocaust Museum and the Jewish Museum of Buenos Aires. I am the former coordinator of the archive at the Jewish Museum, member of the Jewish Studies Organization in Argentina (Núcleo de Estudios Judíos) and of the Latin American Jewish Studies Association. Licensed Tour Guide of the City of Buenos Aires Working Historian I'm a tour guide, not a driver, so four my tours I would hire a professional driver to get us around.

With this tour you will learn about the past and present of the Jewish life in Buenos Aires and Argentina in general. Judaism is flourishing in Buenos Aires. We will walk by the Jewish area next to the garment district or, as I like to call it, the "Schmattah" district. The garment district has always been predominantly Jewish and you will be able to see Mezuzahs in some of the shop's doorways. The idea of the tour is to walk a little around the Jewish area (where I grew up) so you get a feeling of what the neighborhood is like. Don't imagine Borough Park, this would be more like Brooklin. We'll be using a car or a van, so if you can't or don't like to walk, transportation is always at our disposal. We will get to the Jewish Museum where we'll talk about the beginning of the Jewish community in Buenos Aires and the "yiddishkayt". Next to the Jewish Museum is the Libertad Synagogue. "Templo Libertad" is the synagogue that you have probable seen in most of the pictures of "Jewish Buenos Aires".

Ariel was very fun and very knowledgeable. A perfect guide to the Jewish life of Buenos Aires.
He was extremely knowledgeable and informative. He was also very personable and enthusiastic about the tour. We enjoyed all 4 hours with him visiting neighborhoods, synagogues, and famous sites.
As a member of the local Jewish community and academic historian, Ari is the perfect person to introduce visitors to Jewish Buenos Aires. Ari is warm, caring and eager to share his family's stories in Buenos Aires. We covered a lot but at a relaxed pace (I have a bad knee). Beautiful Libertad Synagogue was a highlight, and we were lucky enough to meet the local congregation during our tour. Loved seeing Once with its vibrant shops and colorful streets. Ari's driver has an immaculate new car too. Highly recommend!
This was an exceptional tour. Our tour guide, Ariel R., had excellent knowledge of the past and present history ofJewish life in Buenos Aires. It was a pleasure spending time with him. I highly recommend this tour.
We booked a full-day tour with Ariel, covering both Jewish Buenos Aires and in-depth local and Argentine history. Ariel was an outstanding guide…. Knowledgeable, smart, funny and a natural storyteller. He shared so many fascinating bits of information about his beautiful city that we left feeling that we had spent time with a good friend who was introducing us to his hometown. Strongly recommend Ariel to anyone traveling to Buenos Aires.
-We'll start our tour in the Jewish Area of Once neighborhood. -Then we'll pass by the AMIA Jewish Federation on the outside. This is an office building that was attacked in 1994 by terrorists. We will see the big mural that was painted on the wall of the federation along with its memorial. -Next, we'll reach the Libertad Synagogue. -Afterwards, we'll visit the Jewish Museum. -We'll then get to the Israeli Embassy Memorial Park. -We'll finish our tour at the Shoah Memorial at the Metropolitan Cathedral. Optional: -Saturdays: Jewish sites are closed. However, it's still be possible to do a 4-hour Jewish tour by including the Holocaust Memorial at the "Rosedal". -Sundays: we're visiting the Lithuanian synagogue, but the Jewish Museum & Libertad Synagogue are closed. -It is possible to visit the Holocaust Museum. In case you'd like to visit it, we could do so by skipping some sites of the original itinerary. -Passports needed for entering the Jewish Museum
