With this tour you will learn about the past and present of the Jewish life in Buenos Aires and Argentina in general. Judaism is flourishing in Buenos Aires. We will walk by the Jewish area next to the garment district or, as I like to call it, the "Schmattah" district. The garment district has always been predominantly Jewish and you will be able to see Mezuzahs in some of the shop's doorways. The idea of the tour is to walk a little around the Jewish area (where I grew up) so you get a feeling of what the neighborhood is like. Don't imagine Borough Park, this would be more like Brooklin. We'll be using a car or a van, so if you can't or don't like to walk, transportation is always at our disposal. We will get to the Jewish Museum where we'll talk about the beginning of the Jewish community in Buenos Aires and the "yiddishkayt". Next to the Jewish Museum is the Libertad Synagogue. "Templo Libertad" is the synagogue that you have probable seen in most of the pictures of "Jewish Buenos Aires".
-We'll start our tour in the Jewish Area of Once neighborhood. -Then we'll pass by the AMIA Jewish Federation on the outside. This is an office building that was attacked in 1994 by terrorists. We will see the big mural that was painted on the wall of the federation along with its memorial. -Next, we'll reach the Libertad Synagogue. -Afterwards, we'll visit the Jewish Museum. -We'll then get to the Israeli Embassy Memorial Park. -We'll finish our tour at the Shoah Memorial at the Metropolitan Cathedral. Optional: -Saturdays: Jewish sites are closed. However, it's still be possible to do a 4-hour Jewish tour by including the Holocaust Memorial at the "Rosedal". -Sundays: we're visiting the Lithuanian synagogue, but the Jewish Museum & Libertad Synagogue are closed. -It is possible to visit the Holocaust Museum. In case you'd like to visit it, we could do so by skipping some sites of the original itinerary. -Passports needed for entering the Jewish Museum
