In Puerto Iguazu, you're not just a spectator; you're in the heart of nature's vibrant theatre. The Iguazu Falls don't just make noise—they command attention like a conductor leading an orchestra of storms. Birds are your companions, their chatter adding to the jungle's symphony. In the air, there's a hint of tropical flora, and the ground subtly echoes with life. Adventure isn't an option here; it's a given. With a local guide, your Puerto Iguazu tours go beyond the standard views. They take you to paths that aren't in the guidebooks, where the falls might surprise you with a refreshing spray or where you might hear tales from the Guarani people. Explore Puerto Iguazu your way

At ToursByLocals, we believe that how you explore is just as important as where you go. That’s why every Puerto Iguazu tour is private, flexible, and built around you: Move at your own pace, skip the crowds, make connections and follow your curiosity. Find local guides offering private tours in Puerto Iguazu for every interest, including:

Nature and Wildlife tours: Walk the Upper and Lower Circuits in Iguazú National Park with your guide timing it to see Devil’s Throat before the big crowds, and watch for toucans, coatis, and howler monkeys along the Macuco Trail to Salto Arrechea. You can add the moonlit Devil’s Throat walk on select nights or focus on birding in the Yriapú forest if that’s your favourite.

Layover tours: If you land at Cataratas del Iguazú Airport (IGR) with 3 to 6 hours to spare, your guide can meet you at arrivals, store your luggage, and run a streamlined loop of one circuit plus key viewpoints, then get you back on time. Short layover tours can also include a quick stop at Hito Tres Fronteras for the river confluence view and a local empanada pickup for the road.

Boat tours: Take the Great Adventure speedboat into the spray beneath San Martín and Three Musketeers falls, paired with a guided park walk for a full day of tours on water and land. For a gentler ride, choose the Ecological Boat Ride near Devil’s Throat or a private sunset cruise on the Iguazú River by the Triple Frontier.

The town centre is walkable, and local buses run to the park, but services can be slow at peak times; if you prefer, ask your guide about chauffeured tours or private transportation for hotel and airport pick-up.

This isn’t a one-size-fits-all itinerary, you can tailor your private tour to match your interests, pace and personality with a local who knows Puerto Iguazu inside and out.

Day trip ideas from Puerto Iguazu

From Puerto Iguazú, you can plan easy day trips to nearby highlights, using your tour to focus on big nature, bold engineering, and quiet history without rushing.

Iguazú National Park, Argentina: Walk the Upper and Lower Circuits and ride the ecological train to Garganta del Diablo for the classic waterfall views, with rainforest, birds, and butterflies all around; good if you want time on the boardwalks and lots of photo stops, and your tour can pace the circuits so you don’t miss the best light.

Iguaçu National Park, Brazil: Cross to Foz do Iguaçu for broad, panoramic viewpoints of the falls that frame the whole horseshoe; great if wide-angle shots and quick trails appeal to you, and it adds a second angle to round out your day trip; carry your passport and check visa needs before you go.

Itaipu Dam: See one of the world’s largest hydroelectric dams and learn how the plant powers two countries; ideal if engineering, big-scale infrastructure, and sustainability spark your interest, and the facility’s tours help you understand the size and numbers behind it.

Wanda Mines: Walk among open-pit amethyst and quartz veins, see how stones are cut and polished, and browse for a small piece to take home; a good fit if geology and hands-on demos appeal to you, and it pairs well with a short forest stop on the way back.

San Ignacio Miní: Explore UNESCO-listed Jesuit mission ruins set in red stone, with carved details and quiet courtyards that show how the settlements worked; best for history fans who don’t mind a longer drive, and you can link it with Wanda Mines for a full-day loop.
