With a deep love for hiking, biking, and horse riding across the breathtaking landscapes of Patagonia, I bring over 20 years of experience to the table, starting my journey back in 1998. In 2013, I founded Patagonia Trails in Puerto Varas, Chile. There’s nothing I cherish more than connecting travelers with the hidden gems of my homeland and fostering a sense of community.My friends and colleagues affectionately call me "La María," and you’ll often find me exploring the beautiful trails of Frutillar, Osorno Volcano, Lake Llanquihue, Lake Emerald, and other enchanting spots in this pristine area of lakes and mountains. I invite you to discover this Volcanic Land through my eyes. Together, we’ll explore, share stories, laugh, and, most importantly, make lasting friendships while enjoying life! To ensure you have the best experience possible, I focus entirely on you. A Bit More About Me: CertificationsWilderness First Responder since 2003, consistently up to date. Registered guide at SERNATUR (National Tourism Service of Chile). Degree in Environmental Analysis with a focus on environmental journalism since 1997. InterestsBirdwatching enthusiast, certified by the Ornithological Association of the Plata (1999). Completed courses on Animal Behavior and studied Italian at Dante Alighieri, San Miguel de Tucumán (2016). Volunteer ExperienceVolunteered at the GUIRA OGA Bird Sanctuary in Misiones and at Loitokitok School in Kenya. Guiding Experience: I’ve guided in renowned parks such as Torres del Paine and Vicente Pérez Rosales, among many other spectacular destinations. Memorable Adventures: I’ve had the privilege of summiting Mount Kilimanjaro and Toubkal, trekking the High Inca Trail in Peru, exploring the Atlas Mountains in Morocco, and my favorite, the W Trek in Torres del Paine. I’ve also participated in two-week horse riding expeditions between Chile and Argentina. Maria was an outstanding guide. She is knowledageable about the flora and fauna of the area, and also prepared excellent lunches for us! As we landed on Christmas day, and were warned that local shops would be closed, she was kind enought to get us some essentials! High;y recommended! A special note of appreciation to our driver Ingrid: always on time!

We had a good day with Maria and driver. Drove out into the country and lakeside, saw beautiful towns and scenery along the way, interspersed with a nice time outside the vehicle with nice leisurely walks in parks and along spectacular waterways. There is not a lot to do in Puerto Montt but Maria knows the area and makes the best of it. It’s a nice hike up to the top of Isla Tenglo but it’s worth the view. The birds and cattle at the top are very cool too. Of course our favorite was the monument and cross and the fantastic views. After the hike down, the main drag is essentially the same vendors a hundred times...
