Arthur Avenue has been penned the "Real Little Italy" for many years. This neighborhood has an endless array of Italian Pastry shops and Bakeries. Because of its close proximity to two of the top ten sites in the Bronx, The New York Botanical Garden and the Bronx Zoo. It is a natural destination for a quick bite or leisurely meal and Italian goods shopping. There is a Mozzerella shop that makes fresh Mozz every 15 minutes, a fresh pasta shop that has been a family business for 85 years and a 3rd generation speciality grocery shop with high-quality Italian items. This tour is part food tour, part history, and shopping tour with lots of local flavors! Fordham University is also in the neighborhood and students will be swarming Arthur Avenue's famous pizza place, Full Moon Pizza when school is in session. So if you want a trip to a piece of Italy without the long flight come on and join me! I would love to share with you our little italy!
We will visit: * Our Lady of Mt. Carmel - a look inside the church a mainstay in the neighborhood * Casa Mozzarella - Zagat Rated the best mozzarella shop in NYC * Arthur Ave. Market - indoor market * 3rd Generation Pasta shop * Library/Enrico Fermi Cultural Center ( stop dependent on Library hours) - section on Italian culture. * Pastry shops - see and taste if you like * Bakeries - eat as much as you want. * 3rd Generation Italian Specialty shops - shops some more!
