I can't wait to show you England's iconic Lake District: a perfectly-formed bundle of lakes, mountains, and heritage, perfectly preserved in time. I would love to share with you the peace and tranquillity that I discovered almost 30 years ago when I chose to move to Cumbria and make this area my home. On the journey north, I'll tell you about the landscapes we drive through and relate stories that link the city of Liverpool with this mountainous area populated with sheep, cattle and just 41, 000 people, many of whom still speak the local dialect with its own vocabulary, based on the language of the Vikings who settled here 1000 years ago. You'll be greeted by a stunning landscape that inspired the Lakes poets and children's writer Beatrix Potter, and continues to inspire artists and writers today. Let me show you ancient villages, inns and churches, and introduce you to delicacies like Grasmere Gingerbread, Cumberland Sausage, sticky toffee pudding and real ale - all the ingredients of an unforgettable day

- 2-hour drive north from Liverpool (with comfort break en-route): enjoy the scenery of northwest England and an introduction to the people and places that make the area special - 4 hours sight-seeing in the Lake District, which can include: * a lake cruise on Windermere or Coniston Water's historic Steam Yacht Gondola; * a literary tour taking in places associated with William Wordsworth, Beatrix Potter, Arthur Ransome etc. ; * a heritage tour including visits to standing stones and ancient churches; * a gourmet's tour with opportunities to sample the best of local specialities in the best places; * lunch or afternoon tea in a country inn or charming tearoom - 2-hour drive back to Liverpool with time to reflect on the day and finishing off with a brief highlights tour around Liverpool city centre if time (and traffic) permits This is just a small snapshot of possible itinerary.
