Rather than rushing through an exhausting checklist of sites, she created a relaxed and engaging experience that genuinely helped us understand the city and how its different layers fit together. Ayfer is a natural storyteller: knowledgeable, vivacious, warm and endlessly engaging. Her explanations of the Hippodrome, Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace and Galata were full of fascinating detail and memorable stories, but always delivered in an accessible and enjoyable way rather than feeling like a lecture. What particularly distinguished the tour was the way she blended the great historical monuments with modern Istanbul life. Exploring Karakoy and Galata with her gave us a much better feel for the real city beyond the major sights. The hidden café stops, local insights and practical advice on getting around were especially valuable. She also paced the tour perfectly. Nothing felt hurried or overwhelming, which made the experience ideal after travelling and a very good way to orient ourselves for the rest of our stay. Above all, Ayfer’s enthusiasm for Istanbul is infectious. She clearly loves the city and genuinely enjoys sharing it with visitors. We finished the tour feeling both informed and excited to explore further on our own.
