Merhaba (Hello) from a friendly Istanbulite! My name is Yasin, a licensed tour guide who is in love with his city. Istanbul is more than a regular city. It has been a melting pot of different empires, religions, languages and cultures for centuries! I've been living in this amazing city for 37 years and have about 9 years of experience as a guide. My purpose is not only to show you some historical buildings but also give you a chance to learn more about our unique history, culture-traditions, cuisine, daily life etc. I am very interested in both Roman/Eastern Roman (Byzantine) and Ottoman heritage of Istanbul, so I can offer you very specific tours that you'll always remember. I have basic information on the ancient/medieval Greek and can read the Ottoman Turkish. I can also understand caligraphic inscriptions easily. I believe that if you really want to feel the unique atmosphere of historical buildings, you should know what those inscriptions explain to us. That's why I spent so much time to improve myself in this field. I also love photography and trying different types of healthy and traditional food. Do you have 3 days to spend in Istanbul? If yes, let me offer you the most beneficial itinerary! We'll spend our first day for the main highlights of Istanbul such as Topkapi Palace, Hagia Sophia, Basilica Cistern that everyone visiting Istanbul should see! Our other two days will be in some historical neighborhoods of the city and it will give you a chance to explore the local culture/life/food.
We asked Yasim to take us to secondary sites in Istanbul…the outer walls, Chora church, Balat, aqueduct, etc. His English is great, his knowledge of the history of all the places is terrific, and we learned a lot. I’d recommend him to anyone!
We had a wonderful tour and I would have no hesitation in recommending Yasin. He was personable and very knowlegable and responsive to our needs. He managed the time very well and we had a great pace for the tour - seeing all the sights and also having time for a nice Lunch. We had lots and lots of questions - particularly about the history and the peoples of this area - and Yasin always gave a very detailed and impressive response, mixing facts with stories. Our expectations were high and we were not disappointed. Punctual, respectful, courteous and perfect English was only part of why we thought Yasin was one of the best private guides we have had over many years of traveling . His knowledge of his city was presented simply , factually and he spun it together in an entertaining way. He could recount names and dates in a very historical city without thinking or overload . He was also open to a change in schedule when we wanted to visit another part of the city
