I was born in Toledo, near Tránsito Synagogue. After getting my degree in Art History, in 2001, I decided to work and improve my english in Bath (England). More than a language experience I founded love there and it took me to Paris for a while. Back in Spain I became an Art Temporary Exhibitions Coordinator and then, in 2007, an Official Liscenced Toledo Tour Guide. Back in the 20th century, I was born in front of Tránsito Synagogue (where the maternity hospital was) so I can say I'm part of the Jewish Quarter History since my birth! I still remember the first time my history teacher took us into the Synagogues, as an school activity. I was only 10 years old but the impression still remains in me when I look at the Synagogues prayers room through your eyes. Both are precious Mudéjar art examples: christian rules, moorish style and jewish purposes. In this tour I speak for the people who didn't have voice in the past but influenced so much our present. The jewhis culture is in what we eat, in what we do on saturdays and even in nowadays european medical treatments. Allow me to show you how important was their coexistence with muslims and christians along one thousand years, here, in Toledo.
I would highly recommend this tour for anyone interested in the Jewish history of Toledo. Imma is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about her subject, and is just a very pleasant person to spend a few hours with. I’m so glad we decided to go on this tour.
This was an excellent tour. Inma did a great job of handling rainy day logistical challenges as well as specific requests and many questions. She is extremely knowledgeable about the complicated history of the area- Jewish, Muslim and Christian. She offered great insight at all of the sights, as well as excellent recommendations for food and other souvenirs. She also gave great explanations about the El Greco artworks. I would recommend her highly.
If you're going to get a tour of Toledo--getting one by a true local who lives in Toledo is the way to go! Inma was an excellent guide with great stories and a personal sense of the history that made her tour engaging and fascinating. She is telling you about her town and that personal angle comes across everywhere. We loved it!
Inma was an amazing local guide. She was extremely personable and knowledgeable and it was a pleasure spending the day with her and learning all about the history of not only the Jews of Toledo but also the general history and architecture of the city. Best of all, we went at a relaxed pace.
My wife and I took a 4 hour tour of Toledo with Inma. The tour was excellent. We felt like we were visiting Toledo with a close friend. Inma customized the tour to include the sites we wanted to visit. She is very knowledgeable and passionate about Toledo. (30 minutes ish) We'll stop for pictures at San Martín Bridge, from where you can see the Jewish Quarter skyline. - The walking tour starts at San Juan de los Reyes Monastery, founded by the Queen Isabela (exterior) and the Sofer Synagogue archaeological remains (underground) - Coffe break and marzipan tasting (15 min) - Inside visit to Sta. Mª la Blanca and Tránsito Mudéjar Synagogues. - Semuel Levi Abulafia palace underground (at Greco Museum) + private underground. - Inquisition areas (exterior) where people were judged or in jail. - End of the tour surrounded by restaurants, shops and public transport stops (taxis and buses) The itinerary can be adapted to traveller's interests: do not hesitate to contact me for a customized tour.
