I was born in San Sebastián, though the most of my life has passed in Toledo. My first academic study concerning the profession of Tourist Guide was Specialist on Enterprises and Tourist Activities at the Official Tourist School from Madrid. Since then, 1991, I have been practising the profession of Tourist Guide in Toledo, both in Spanish and English, French or Portuguese. And for all this time I've actively belong to the Castilla-La Mancha Tourist Guide Association. With the idea of improving my knowledge for my job, I was arranging some years later my profession with the studies of Degree on Humanities at the School of Toledo, where after graduating I finished the courses of Doctorate and so I get the Advanced Studies Diploma. For all these years I've got the pleasure of introducing Toledo to visitors of all kind: students, adults, diverse kinds of associations, handicapped, congresses, institucional tours, etc. All the city guides of Toledo are constantly improving our backgrounds and renovating our knowledge of the city atending to lectures and especific courses for Tourist Guides. Since I started my professional activity I am an active member of the Castilla-La Mancha Tourist Guides Regional Association, where I have hold diverse responsibilities. This Association, and then all his fellows, are integrated in CEFAPIT (Spanish Confederation of Tourist Guides Federation and Association), FEG (European Guides Federation) and in the World Federation of Tourist Guides Associations. I think I am a very lucky person because I feel like an embasador of this city. Living here gives me the chance of knowing many places, details and those hidden treasures that are not easy to find. Overview of your Toledo tour

If there is a part of my city that is special, this is undoubtedly the Jewish quarter. I have certificates from the Spanish Network of Jewish Quarters about Jewish Culture and the History of Jews in Spain. Of course we'll talk about the history of this people who occupied this city before the Christians, the Muslims and the Romans. But also about the traditions and legends that have remained in the city, their lifestyle and how they have influenced its inhabitants. The synagogue of Santa Maria la Blanca surprises me every time I enter it, despite having done it so many times, for its artistic beauty, reminiscent of a mosque. And the Synagogue of El Tránsito, the Sephardic museum, apart from its beauty, is an open book that shows the life of the Jews in Spain until their expulsion in 1492. If we can I will show you some passages that they used in those difficult days of the Inquisition. After 2 hours in the Jewish Quarter, we can visit the Cathedral or another monument on the last hour of this tour.

Juan Ignacio gave a wonderful tour that was both informative and inspiring at the same time. His knowledge and insight on both the history of Toledo and Spain were expansive but he also wove in the strands of Jewish history, culture and diaspora that were both illuminating and surprising. We learned so much and the 3 hours really gave us an opportunity to dive deep. We couldn’t be happier or more satisfied and would unquestionably recommend Juan, who is lovely and charming, anytime.

Juan was excellent. He met us at the train and took us on a tour stopping on the outside of the old city where we were able to take some beautiful photographs; then we went to the Jewish quarter and visited two old synagogues where he explained in great detail the history behind the synagogues, the construction of them The symbolism of some of the items in the museum etc. I would highly recommend him

Juan was a superlative tour guide. He is extremely knowledgeable regarding the Jewish history of Toledo and was a valuable resource as we toured the synagogues and Sephardic Museum in the medieval Jewish Quarter. He is also conversant with the art and iconography of Catedral Primada and Chapel of Santo Tome. Our tour with Juan was the highlight of our visit to Toledo and we highly recommend him.

Juan Ignacio was GREAT! Very knowledgable about the history of Toledo, the geography, and specifics about all of the places we visited in our tour. He was also very knowledgable about Jewish customs and traditions, which was an important part of our tour. We really enjoyed spending time with him walking through the city, and he adapted teh tour to accommodate an 11 and 18 year-old admirably. Juan Ignacio is highly recommended!

Your Toledo tour itinerary

Meeting point: We will meet at the main square, Plaza de Zocodover. Or at another location if you prefer. And if you're coming by train, ask me to see if we can meet at the station. From the station, you'll need to take a taxi to the historic center. - Outside of the Monastery of Saint John of the Monarchs - Synagoge of Saint Mary the White: XIIth synagogue that looks like a mosque that became a Christian church at the XVth century. - Street of the Catholic Monarchs: at the beginning of it a view of the Tagus River and the lanscapes and villages in front of Toledo - Synagogue of El Tránsito: XIVth century synagogue, spectacular buillding with Moorish decoration inside. Here we will visit as well the Sefardic Museum. The synagoguee is not activ anymore. - Square of the City Hall: we will visit if you want the Cathedral - Way back to the main square. The itinerary can be adapted to traveller's interests: do no hesitate to contact me.

Type: Walking

Walking tour. If you're arriving by train, you can walk from the station to Plaza de Zocodover via the Alcántara Bridge (about 20 minutes), or take a taxi (about 5 minutes). Alternatively, I can meet you at the station and we can take a taxi for a panoramic drive around the historic city, including the views from the other side of the river (it's around €25). If you'd like to choose this last option, please let me know in advance so I can reserve a taxi, as there are only a few available.

Other: The taxi to go from the station to the old town it costs about 25€ (4 people with me). We can go walking as well, but part of it is uphill, and with the taxi we can do a panoramic around the old town to see it from the other side of the Tagus river with some of the most espectacular views of an historical site. If you want it, let me know for me to reserve taxi because some days there are not enough at the station for everybody.

Plaza de Zocodover is the main square of the historic city. On one side of the square is the Arco de la Sangre (Arch of Blood). That would be the meeting point. But if you prefer, we can meet somewhere else (your hotel, a restaurant, or the train station).
